Or, are you a newly certified teacher with a desire to receive specialized training to make a difference in an urban setting? The Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) seeks talented men and women with a passion for teaching in Chicago’s high-poverty public schools to participate in an intensive 12-month, full-time, paid teacher preparation, certification, and Master's degree program beginning in June 2011. Following the training year, graduates commit to teach in Chicago Public Schools for at least four years. The program includes: • A full school year of teacher training. Participants work in the classroom with students four days a week in one of AUSL’s seven teacher training schools located across Chicago, with full-time coaching and guidance from an experienced mentor teacher. All grade levels K-12 and all content areas (Math, Science, etc.) are available. • A Master’s degree and Illinois teaching certification. Earn your Master’s degree and Illinois teaching certification in one year from National-Louis University. The program includes full-time university course work during the summer of 2011, and one day a week of university course work during the school year. • Financial support. AUSL’s financial support for the training year includes a $30,000 annual training salary, a $5,350 AmeriCorps Education Award, discounted tuition from National-Louis, and financial aid in the form of loans and grants eligible for forgiveness through post-program teaching service in a high-needs school. • Post-program job placement opportunities. After the training year, successful graduates are placed as Chicago Public Schools teachers in an AUSL-managed elementary or high schools, where they apply their training to help transform underperforming schools into schools of excellence in high-need communities. The starting salary for a CPS Master’s degree teacher is over $51,000 plus benefits. For more information about AUSL and to apply online, go to www.ausl-chicago.org.
