Posted By: Hija Chang on May 15, 2012 The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is dedicated to the preservation, protection, effective management, and maintenance of Wisconsin's natural resources. The Bureau of Legal Services is seeking three Attorney positions in the following areas: Fisheries, Wildlife Management, Endangered Resources, and Stewardship Program Law Enforcement, Parks and Lands Air and Wastewater Job Duties: Air and Wastewater ~ This position provides legal counsel to the Secretary’s Office, to the Air and Waste Division and to the Water Division in the development, administration and implementation of the state’s water management program and air management program. The attorney’s duties include assisting in the drafting and promulgation of administrative rules, conducting informational hearings, representing the Department at contested case hearings, training of Department personnel, answering inquiries from members of the public and assisting in the enforcement of the programs’ requirements. Law Enforcement, Parks, Lands ~ This attorney is responsible for providing legal counsel and representation to the Department and its employees, primarily in the areas of law enforcement, state parks, property management, liability, Friends groups, gifts and solicitation and captive wildlife. This attorney works with, and represents the Department before national conservation organizations, other federal, state and local agencies, and private entities on issues including federal/state jurisdiction. Fisheries, Wildlife Management, Endangered Resources, and Stewardship Program ~The attorney who holds this position provides legal counsel to the Bureaus of Wildlife Management, Fisheries Management and Habitat Protection, Endangered Resources, Cooperative Environmental Assistance, Community Financial Assistance, Facilities and Lands, Customer Service and Licensing, and Law Enforcement. This attorney is assigned the responsibility of legal counsel and representation in the Bureaus of Wildlife Management and Endangered Resources for all wildlife and endangered resources programs, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Habitat protection for its inland fishing, state fish rearing and stocking, and fish farm regulation programs. In addition, this attorney provides legal counsel to the Bureaus of Community Financial Assistance and Facilities and Lands for Stewardship Program grants to non-profit organizations for acquisition and development of land, for purchase of conservation easements, and for federal aid issues. Also this attorney provides counsel to the Bureau of Customer Service and Licensing in implementation of automated fish and wildlife licensing and in issuance of hunting, fishing and private fish farm permits and licenses. Special Notes: Upon hire, applicant must have graduated from an accredited law school and be licensed or eligible to obtain a license to practice law in the State of Wisconsin. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Eligible candidates will have the knowledge, skills and abilities of, but not limited to: Knowledge and familiarity with administrative law, environmental law and resource management law. Knowledge and familiarity with law enforcement, criminal law, and prosecution proceedings.
