JOB SUMMARY:
The medical/surgical/telemetry nurse provides care for a panel of medical/surgical/telemetry patients. She/he recognizes and reports physiology and/or psychological deviations such as symptoms of hemorrhage, shock, obstructed airway and/or anaphylaxis, etc. Incumbent charts pertinent data regarding the patient's condition such as procedures performed, vital signs, pre-op and post-op assessments, consent site verification, IMed consents, and handoff reports. The RN is responsible for checking charts for the next day. She/he makes sure all required labs and EKG, history and physicals are done prior to procedure. Nurse will also make sure that the correct surgical site has been marked appropriately or if site is unable to be marked, identifying armband will be placed on patient by nurse and initialed by physician. Incumbent adheres to all rules of safe environment in the pere-operative area. Incumbent performs a wide range of complex nursing procedures, some of which include performing catheterizations, bladder scan, IV insertion, accu-checks, initiating and abiding by isolation protocols and performing nasal swabs for MRSA screening of all patients being admitted. In addition, the nurse performs pre-op phone calls and provides clear and concise discharge instructions to patients and families with written and verbal communication. She/he is responsible for maintaining up to date all mandatory training and attending required in-services as well as maintaining current ACLS and BLS certification. The incumbent will possess effective communication skills and customer service practices.

TOUR OF DUTY: Evening and or Nighttours (3:30pm-12:00mnand or 11:30pm-8:00am) with rotating weekends and holidays
