Dang Fe Baby, I havent seen you post in a minute! It's good to see and hear that you have adjusted to Howard so well, so early.
Thanks for keeping it real with your post! In the long run, folks will appreciate that more than being fed lies and untruths.
Hopefully in due time you will grow to love Howard as much as I have. Good luck with the rest of the semester! Oh, and COOK HALL is definitely going to win Res Fest
lol. Hey theTruth, thanx for the alumni love. I hope i'll grow to love HU as well. But they do feed you lies before you come to Howard... I remember I was in the cafe eating breakfast and there was a tour going on and the tourguide was like "the cafe food is great and we have a party in here @ the cafe every Friday! It's all a big party." I wanted to yell out THIS GIRL IS LYING! lol. It's crazy how you hear so much but once you get here you learn a lot of it was untrue.Yea so that's my lil insight... and theTruth u sure about ResFest? lol....u WERE wrong about Howard winning the Howard vs. Hampton game because we did in fact LOSE. u had me all hyped lol... i ain't trusting your judgement. Sooo.... the QUAD is definitely going to win ResFest. And jamaicanshawty to answer your ? HU was actually pretty good with my accpetance letter... i think I got it early, like Dec. 15 or something.
When I went it didn't look that bad. The way people were describing it to me I thought it would be something completely different. I mean, of course it looked different from the Georgetown area. You just have to be aware of your surroundings.
I have a question: Is it true that the siddity/lame girls stay in the Annex?
Hi all!!! It's been so long since I've been on here. You don't have too much time on your hands when you're in college (...and have work-study). Anyways I was in the same boat as you all maybe about 3 months ago and I frequented this site to get answer to my many questions as well. So I decided to update you guys on my experience so far:First DORMS:I stay in the Quad (Crandall Hall) after first being switched from the Annex. I heard the "you have to stay in the QUAD for that freshman experience" talk. But so far I think I should kept my original assignment in the Annex. Most of my friends are there and it's just so much nicer. They don't have to put up with dirty bathrooms (the Annex are suite-style dorms so only 4 of girls are using the bathrooms) or cold showers on occasions. And in the Annex they also have study rooms...unlike the quad....and kitchen areas where u can cook. And no the Annex girls are not saddity lol. That's a stereotype as theTruth said. Once you get here you will find a lot of what you heard was just HYPE...and not really true. Dont get me wrong the quad is def. more social that the annex but to me...the space and the fact that the dorm is newer outweighs that 1 aspect. As it has been said before: COLLEGE IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT! U can still be social even if you stay in the annex, meridian, or wherever. I AM lookin forward to beating the Annex girls' a** @ ResFest tho....just sayin lol. OK the FOOD:Lawd lol. The food. I'm going to be str8 up real with yall, the food here is not all that great....personally i think it's nasty but some ppl like it... i guess. I really dont see how anyone can gain the 'freshman 15' here with the food and walking up these hills. And being REALLY REAL with yall...the cafe was actually closed down about 2 weeks ago becuase it didnt pass health inspection (mice problems, sewage). They worked on that now i presume bcuz it's open, but I'm STILL eating in the Annex. However if you don't like the food there restaurants near campus (Mc-E-Dee's, Subway, TOO MANY chinese restaurants, and a jamaincan eatery to name a few). Umm what else...the PARTY SCENE:It's true there are parties every single week here...I get at least 5-10 fliers a week about a upcomin party. TRANSPORTATION:U really dont need a car here (but it would still be nice). The subway is like maybe 4 or 5 blocks from HU and u can get to virtually anywhere on it...really convient and easy to navigate your way around (i wish they had a subway back in Miami.)That's all I can really think of right now. Overall to tell yall the truth I was little dissappointed coming here, maybe because I expected SO MUCH from HU... a lot of the upperclassmen i tlked to said they felt like that too... but then they eventually grew to love Howard so I'm giving it time. It's just a lot of crap you gotta put up with here...mainly because it's a HBCU...just something u should take into consideration.SO yea, I'm open to answer any questions so message me or whatever to get a current view on the school... I was like yall 5 months ago. ALSO deadline for early admission is fast approaching...I would suggest applying Nov. 1 if you think HU is the school for you... I did and I'm here now. Aiight? Ok. Lata!!!
^^ wow..im soo retarded...srry..i def did mean that they look at ur unweighted GPA which is y takin an AP and not doin too well mite not be the best choice at lest not if ur tryna get a scholarship b/c on the website they say freshman scholarships are determined by GPA and SAT/ACT score

^^^You should probably make sure the school your applying to looks at weighted averages b4 u take an AP class b/c if it doesn't you might just be better takin a regular class and gettin a 90 or bettr than takin an AP and gettin an 85...Howard doesn't looks at your unweighted average and I'm kickin myslef now for takin all so many APs when i could've done much bettr in a regular class
I'm '07 but I had to comment. lol.OH NAH! Dont take all regular course in hs... that's like suicide. ALL colleges like to see you take honor and AP classes because it prepares you for college. You could make straight A's in all regular classes and have a 4.0 but you were not challenge; that's kind a frowned uponed. In addition to your GPA, colleges look at the rigor of your record. I would suggest AT LEAST take like maybe 1 AP course and a few honors... to prove to the admission ppl you will be able to handle college coursework, ya digg?As for the tests... TAKE THE ACT. lol. To me, the SAT was longer and tedious...too many damn sections. The ACT was more str8-forward and seemed easier; I did better on it. For Howard you only need a 26 on the ACT for the lowest scholarship. Good luck to ya'll appying for early action... that what I did and I'm on my way 2 HU! Best way to go.
Nope. U gonna have take it over. It was like that with me... my GPA was there, but my test score wasn't high enough.Maybe u could get some outside scholarships tho.
Congratulations BreathingDiamond! See u at HU!But UPDATE: For those freshman who don't know... early registration on Bisonweb is July 9-13. To register you can't have NO holds so make sure u get them medical forms in! (lord knows it took my behind forever to get cleared). And if you don't wanna get stuck with that WRONG teacher, there are a couple of threads on here (Howard forum) about which professors you might want to chose and those you might want to stay away from.... u could also go to this website called ratemyprofessors.com where you can see comments and ratings about professors at Howard. Ok. Thought I'd share that info wit yall. Lata.
The only people that I wouldn't recommend a fridge for are the young ladies who will be staying in Truth or Crandall. You guys just don't have enough room, so every little bit of space counts. I honestly don't know where a fridge would fit in those rooms, but hey...some folks are good strategizers, maybe it could work.
I thought there wouldn't b much room in the Crandall and Truth dorms. But Blutifully Human, can you put stuff under the bed? I asked cuz I noticed from pictures there are drawers under the dorm beds... can they be removed?
Honestly, I'm not too sure about the Trustee Scholarship. However, the A Building does a good job of posting scholarships and so does the howard.edu website. There were a lot of scholarships that upperclassmen took advantage of. Different Departments have scholarships also. Such as the English Department, Psychology Department, etc. Check with your major for scholarships once you become a sophomore.
Also, if you cant get a scholarship try funding your education other ways. If you become a Resident Assistant you get free housing, a monthly stipend and money for food (Dining Dollars).
Or you could try getting involved in the Work Study Program. Some of the Work Study's pay up to $5,000 over the course of a year.
Howard is expensive, but there are definitely ways to pay for it. Free money is out there and all over the place...
>>Thanx Blutifully Human. And theTruth, do you know some of the jobs that they offer for the Work Study Program?
Yes, the Legacy Scholarship is good. But also check into the Laureate Scholarship and the Gates Milennium Sholarship Program.
There are a lot of Laureate Scholars at Howard and they do not have to pay for ANYTHING...
But even if you don't get a freshman scholarship for whatever reason, there's still hope right? Like the Trustee Scholarship which is open to upperclassmen... you only need a 3.0 to qualify and it covers tuition. Do a lot of people usually get that schoalrship?
I WISH I had some type of scholarship maaaan. I wasthisclose... I only needed two more damn points on my ACT!!! *Sigh* I'm alrite though. But the minimum scholarship Howard offers is called the Legacy Scholarship... you need between a 26-28 on the ACT and a 3.0 GPA. It covers tuition and fees, which is pretty good because that's the most expensive thing on the Howard price tag. Howard offers other freshman schollys that cover more but it depends on how high your GPA and test scores are. To get a full ride... plus a laptop and some other stuff, you need like a perfect score on the ACT or SAT and a 3.7. So uh, good luck! You can get more info on Howard's website... look under financial aid. Hope I helped you out a lil' bit.
I read Howard was a fashion off this site called studentreviews.com...The students was sayin its normal was HU students to spend $500 on an outfit...It was like If you dont have the money like that then you assed out because it makes a difference...Man real talk id probably go hungry or somethin tryin to live like that...The Truth im sho you know if this is true or not
I've visited that site... got a lot of info from there. Anyways, I think it's like that at most black college campuses you go to... not just at Howard. Everybody trying to impress somebody else... that's just how it is. On the other hand though, you necessarily don't have to try and keep up with the Jones'. Have your own style and forget what everybody else gots to say.
Hey whassup. Well as far as Clark Atlanta my home girl just got accepted there and her GPA was only a 2.9 (weighted) and she got a 19 on the ACT. If you're anywhere near or above that I'd say you str8. Morris Brown... I think they're still closed down, I'm not sure... you might have check into that. Hope I helped you out.

YESS! i found out yesterday that i will be staying in baldwin hall in DA QUAD!! yeah i'm pretty excited but not too thrilled about all dem FEMALES. anyway, i can't wait to get up outta california. HOLLA!
Yes, THE BOOTY WALL! It's the long wall in front of the Quad that folks sit on for HOURS lol...dont get caught up!
And I dont know which one is better in regards to Truth or Crandall. I'd say just pick one. It doesnt really matter because its all the Quad...and at least you will have Air Conditioner unlike Frazier, Wheatley and Baldwin LOL!
OKAY! lol. I know air conditioner for freshman is a scarce commodity at Howard. And I'll be sure to keep a mental note about that booty wall. Thanx for being so helpful to all us inquiring freshman.
