^^^LOL. What schools are you talking about??? At TU and USCA we could care less about you going to a particular table because almost everyone stops by every table. Pretty much the only thing on tables are para. And an informational and and a greek mixer are totally different. I strongly encourage freshmen to attend greek mixers. This is a time to find out GPA requirements and other requirements because this differs from school to school (most HBCUs have different requirements than nationals). But everyone has their own opinions. You do what you feel is more beneficial to u.

Life time commitment? Most people stop their commitment after graduation. The ones that work with the org are the ones that never joined undergrad.

No a greek mixer is to INFORM!!! Some schools may call it something different. But in a mixer all the BGLOs on campus give a mini presentation on their organization and then they have a Q and A period. After that they have tables set up for each org where you go around looking at different para and ask questions if you want. They may do it different depending on the school and some may not even have any. This may be the first time some people have heard or seen greek life. You don't have to do research before attending a mixer. However, you may want to hold some questions you have until after you've done research. It is not an informational and no one knows what org you are interested in, if any, because org on the yard is present. The sole purpose of a mixer is to get information! And yes you are very true about the hit or miss part. it does depend on the org and the member!

And that saying you can't turn a hoe into a houewife is BULL!!! I've seen it done and people do change. Some turned into disaster, but some actually worked. You'll be suprised at what love can make a person do.

WOW!!! That is a record! But I feel like this if you're willing to take that risk then I say go for it. As long as that stuff is in the past then I don't see what's wrong with persuing a relationship. It's really all up to you and how well you trust her. As far as what I would do. I can't tell u. it's something I'd have to think long and hard about. Cuz honestly it's a turnoff to me. And I would inquire about someone's past before I got serious with them. Those questions would be asked in the basic "getting to know you and thinking about taking that next step" phase. This is why it's SOOOOOOO important to ask questions before getting involved with someone. ESPECIALLY sexually invovled. Some people will not offer information you have to ask. you can't be scared to ask questions because not knowing can be the difference between life and death. Think about it....

COMMUNITY SERVICE!!!!! Have lots of it because service is a part of every BGLO! This makes you more marketable. Attend their events, but you don't have to be all under them. And you don't have to go to every single one. Just enough to get your face out there. Mingle with the memebers of the orgs at their events. get to know what they are like because you may find that they are not what they seem! Have good grades!!! Excel in academics. No one wants someone with lows grades (although there is a GPA requirement anyways). Be yourself. Don't try to act a certain way to become a partof an org because if they don't accept you for who you are then you don't need them. Now if you know you have a bad attitude or something like that then change....not for the sake of joining an org, but just for the sake of bettering yourself. I'm sure there is more, but this is all I can think of at the time. I hope this helps.

I think this would depend on the school and the org. To me a greek mixer (or whatever term you institution may use) is the time to gather information about different organizations. This is the time when you are giving a brief history of the organization and the different things (such as programs and community service projects) that they are involved in on and off campus. This is the time to ask questions that you may have. If you don't feel comfortable asking in front of a group of people pull a member to the side. When attending an informational/rush you are saying that you are expressing interest in being a part of this organization. This is NOT the event to attend to when you are in between organizations because it does not look good to attend more than one. TRUST greeks talk. The name "informational" is misleading to me. It appears as if you should be able to come for information, but really your mind should be made up that this is what you want to do. Yes sometimes you go to informationals and realize that this is not the org for you. In that case, do more research and then try again. But another way to get to know how different orgs interact with each other and the community and to go to their events. This is SO important. I'm not saying be at every event but show you face at some. Because if you can't come to any of our events when you are not in our org how can we expect you to come once/if you join. But this is in my opinion and a lot of greek organizations at both universities I have attended.

Me personally, I find it fulfilling to be apart of a greek organization. My brother and his wife are greek, and I have some other family members who are likewise, but there is a specific org that has this legacy that I feel that i want to be apart of.
What draws you to the org? A lot of people have parents in certain, but that diesn't mean that particular organization is for you. I know someone who has Zeta's and Sigma's down their family line all way to great grandparents but they decided to do something else. Some people just join certain orgs just to please their parents. My best friend's moother wanted her to be a Delta so bad, but it wasn't in her heart so she went a different route. I'm saying this to say RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH before committing anything. This is a life time committment and you don't want to have regrets.

I have seen numerous threads from people asking about the popluarity of Greek Orgs on different campus. I'm curious to know why NON greeks want to be apart of a BGLO. Because it seems are if popularity plays a key part. Hey you could even tell me why "ur friend" wants to join..lol

OMG!!! I hope these questions don't influence anyone to join an organization. Ur answers are gonna vary based upon school and people. I would like to see some posts where people ask some quality questions like what type of community service do ur orgs participate in. I mean for real people.
