An infamous story within my class is from freshman year when a girl managed to stuff herself in a suitcase to get snuck in the male freshmen dorm. Don't know how she got caught...or what she looked like climbing out of that suitcase, but the thought of it is halarious to me lol
lmao!! i heard about that! they said she was moving too much and that was the reason why she got caught
Yeah u can but things didn't pop off until this semester and i only have 7 more weeks left so i'm trying to stick it out....besides, i love my hallmates!!!
I live in a triple at HU. The beginning of 2006 was GREAT! No problems or issues went on during that first semester. Around Jan. 2007, things went horribly! I don't know what went on during the winter break but Roommate #1 came back crazy!!!
Situation 1: i made a mistake and left my keys in the room because i had a lot of things in my hand and on my mind. My roommate #2 walked in on roommate #1 kissing her "friend" and roommate #2 quickly left to go and retrieve something down the hall. When roommate #2 came back, roommate #1 had locked the door. When I came back around 11:30, I was ready to take a shower and get in the bed because I had an 8:00 am class. Ppl on my hall told me that my roommate #1 had a guy in the room so I wouldn't be too upset. When I tried to knock on the door, she wouldn't answer. I called my friend and she quickly came over. I was hella mad and both of us started beating on the door and she eventually opened the door and stuck her head out. I told her that I needed my things in order to take a shower. I told her "No, I don't want you touching my stuff" and I opened up the door, retrieved my things, and left. BTW, I didn't speak to her for a couple of days.
Situation 2: Roommate #1 was sick and coughing for a very long time and she WOULD NOT cover her mouth. My other roommate and I asked her if she could cover her mouth because she was getting us sick. She did it for a while but she went back to her old ways and we asked her AGAIN to cover her mouth.....*sigh* still didn't work
Situation 3: Roommate #1 saw me lying in the bed sleep and she walked in and pulled the blinds open....every1 at HU KNOWS how big those windows are and I gave her the nastiest look ever because I don't like to talk when I first get up in the morning.
Situation 4: Dirty dishes left in a bag for weeks at a time! When Roommate #1 does wash them, it's in the shower stall (I know right). Oh yeah she walks in the PUBLIC bathroom with NO SHOES on like she is at home!!
Situation 5: Roommate #1 uses roommate #2's tv without putting her stuff back after she uses it. Roommate #1 puts things on top and in front of the tv and Roommate #1 just moves the things out of the way.
Situation 6: Roommate #1 blasts music when she sees me studying or when I walk into the room. Plus she is TONE DEAF!
You guys, I DO say things to her and it seems like she is stuck on stupid forreal!!! She acts like she doesn't understand when I tell her to QUIT with the things she does to me or my other roommate. My RA won't do much but talk to her, and I doubt that will work because Roommate #1 won't listen to me or any1 else of that matter. I am so ready to kick @.. and take names later but I don't want to get put out!! I am counting the days until Freshman year is OVER! Sry its so long..I just needed to vent
As far as acceptance goes, it is definately more competitive than it used to be. For the guys, i'd say you are undoubtily in with a 3.0 or above. Mainly becuz most schools (especially Black ones) are always looking for more guys, so requirements may be a lil more flexible for them. But as a female, i'd just recommend that you have decent SAT scores (over 1000), a solid GPA (over 3.0...at the least), and leadership & community service experience. Howard's lil motto is "Leaders for America and the Global Community", so they are always looking for people who may have potential to do big things and represent the name well in the future.
Of course Homecoming is a staple...nothing else on the planet like a Howard Homecoming. Classes vary...some are boring, some are challenging, and some are exciting. It really just depends on the teacher and course (i do agree that Dr. Carr is da bizniz tho). There are a plethora of organizations to join and activities to get involved in: religious life, student government, Greek organizations, state clubs, etc. We have access to a very accomplished faculty and great networking accessiblity. You will be surrounded amongst scholars, intellectuals, primadonnas, "thugs", suburbanites, and everything in between. Getting housing can be a pain sometimes, but if you stay on top of your ish...then you shouldn't really have a problem. And of course like any other HBCU there are administration problems. I guess it sorta just comes with the territory.
I could go on and on for days, but it's kinda difficult to illustrate a "realistic and accurate portrayal" of Howard life. Mainly becuz each person's HU experience is unique and different. For me, answering that question is like answering "what does it mean to be Black?". It's sooooo many things that it is almost indescribable. Like I said in another post, Howard is truly whatever you make of it. I wish you all the best. I wish you all the best Jade and if you have any other questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask
I agree with everything! I love Howard but sometimes they do give me a headache!!! but i wouldn't change my education for the world!
Howard has flaws? *gasp* :o ....get the hell outta here! How did I miss em?
lol, k...all jokes aside. Akia I think your question was actually legitimate, it was just posed in an awkward way. I don't think Truth was trying to be abrasive to you, but it's almost as if a stranger walked up to you and said "hey, tell me every negative thing about your family. I want every juicy detail!" You'd look at them the same way. Sometimes it's best to keep things "in house".
However, I am a realest. Although I love HU with all of my heart, I don't pretend like it's Heaven. If you're interested in something, I think its always best to get both sides. Labella covered some of the more popular complaints. Some other common ones are the location (some might see it as the "ghetto"...i've seen worse tho), lack of resources/facilities, occassional disorganization, etc.
Honestly tho, I can't say there anything that I personally "hate" about Howard. That's so strong. The HU experience truly is whatever you make of it.
