Howard isn't even that selective. they let in plenty of mediocre students who have connections but not necessarily good grades. nevertheless, the academics are top-of-the line. wonderful school, but you need to get aquainted with the tsa immediately after coming here (transfer student assoc.) Things will be extremely difficult for you because of all the red tape, but it won't last past the second month if you get involved with us because we help each other out.
i did. it's easy. go to the budget meetings on sundays at 6pm. might be a different time but it will be on sundays. they throw out potential topics and you go for it.
Congratulations. Bring enough cash to put on a SmartTrip card to find some work/internships. Also, bring much patience, and be prepared to get involved. We are going through some minor turbulence and you have got to be even more focused than usual. If you really want to enjoy your time at HU, don't be a wallflower !
Most of all, have fun and be dilligent. Keep your goal in mind.
I applied and got in right away. I had a 3.8 my freshman semester, made the President's List because of it, held down a job, and volunteered at the Red Cross occasionally. I didn't volunteer as much back then as I do now, but my grades stayed high, even though they dropped to a 3.4 in the spring semester.
I defferred my admission to January so I'll be at Howard then.
Just have confidence in your abilities, and play up your strengths. I'm a good writer, so I used the essay to my advantage. Believe, manifest.
Damn, I sound like a Deepak Chopra book, lol. Just don't sweat it. I was so busy applying to the Ivy Leagues that Howard was last on my list. I ended up chucking the other applications into the garbage and not even sending them in. Just felt like it was the right decision.
Thanks! Your information was very helpful. Especially since I've only been through Dc on my way to New Jersey (never had any money, lol). I've never visited Howard. I was going by reputation alone.
So, I love giving my time to volunteer work and working on new cmapaigns and ideas for different causes. A guy came up to me once and told me that he was an Omega and that I should think about pledging Delta. another came up right behind him and told me AKA. I'm the first in my family to finish high school, so what I know is limited. I blieve in sisterhood and everything, but I don't want to join just to have a social circle. Do sororities and fraternities, even those other than Deltas, Omegas, Kappas, and AKAs, because I realize that other DO exist, still serve their communities with vigor and a noticible presence? Or is it just one big party? Does it vary from campus to campus? Another question, I'm going to Howard U. Why does everyone want to pledge Alpha chapter? Tradition?
So, I'm going to be at Howard in the spring. I will be turning eighteen next month, until then, I have been relegated to working fast food jobs at entry-level positions. I have been trying so hard to get a job in retail, specifically at Ann Taylor, but a job, period, would do just as well. Do people usually hire in January in DC? How much is the usual minimum wage for fast-food? retail? Are there any jobs that I can apply for online, interview by phone, and start immediately after arriving? lol. Damn right, i'm desperate. Howard is draining me for my second year, even with a 3.7 cumulative. i don't know what to do.
It's a shame. It's as if they deliberately post these things because they know that his security is extra tight. I'm not afraid, though. I don't think he is either, and I wouldn't be, but his children and wife need to be protected.
Okay, I am going to be attending Howard this Spring for my second year and I was wondering if there were any local record labels, recording studios in the metro DC area.
Also, how good is Howard's debate team. I haven't debated since tenth grade and am looking forward to trying out, but the website doesn't say much. With that new movie, I'm sure everyone is going to want to do it, lol, so I want to know what I'm in for.
I feel like people are entitled to feel secure sexually, however, for the record, it should be known that making love is one of the great pleasures of life. If, experienced in all f its aspects, emotional, physical, and otherwise, sex can enrich a good relationship.
Everyone has preferences and shouldnt be forced or coerced to do anything they dont feel comfortable with. Nevertheless, a person shouldnt "determine" their interests based on what society deems "proper". There isnt anything wrong with oral sex as long as two people are mutually comfortable with it. A lot of the psychological aspects that surround oral sex and the female mentality come from society.
Some femenists are against it. I say all power to the woman who can get over the contradictory male sociological bullshit. Lets say that this was the scenario: Society says "bad", men run society, they say to us "be our dirty little girls for a moment". What every woman needs to do for a second is what she feels is the right thing. What is going to please her physically and mentally? As long as here sexual habits dont have a detrimental effect on her life or that of her partner's life, then forget what people say.
People, especially women, need to learn to think for themselves, or else, all of this philosophy is useless anyway.
Man, I almost feel like I was denied a proper education when you put it like that...then again, I hated highschool because of the social strata and the emphasis placed on it than the coursework.
Just one more question: you said in another post that you had some schooling in Brooklyn, NY. Which high school did you attend?
We moved from Brooklyn when I was eight. I continued fourth grade here in the south. I used to live in Bushwick before we moved. As far as proper education goes, as far as I am concerned all blacks are denied proper primary education. We dont even have the opportunity to learn our real history. I know exactly how you feel.
You're fine. The main thing to really worry about when trying to get accepted int o any school is financial aid if you aren't wealthy.
For you, you wouldn't have to worry about that. You're obviously a well-rounded student and you can definitely count on a full ride. I don't think any school would refuse you that.
I was recently accepted into Howard as a transfer with a perfect GPA and with less than great high school grades, lol. Since I'd proven that I could actually do the work and drew the attention away from my mediocre high school grades, they offered me a wonderful deal.
Look forward to college, because you sure worked hard for it.
All of us get a little dirty during the course of a day. But at some point it becomes a problem. The problem with Obama's associations are the nature of those associations in that they are long standing and close to heart. As for Obama's politics, they are simply socialisms. One would do as well to rob ones neighbor, than to hire Obama to do do it for them and wipe thier hands of the matter. Well it's legal they say. But I have never seen legality as a light brighter than my conscience. At some point one must choose principle over lust and greed....if not for the nation, then for ones own peace of mind. That upon which one sets ones heart is in the end either ones salvation or ones despair.
It is so funny how people spout ideology when speaking of politics but never pure fact. You're just as bad as they are.
What one has to consider is that no one is perfect, and people look to politicians to intentionally persecute them based on their shortcomings or what we consider as their shortcomings. You call Obama's political foundation "socialist?" I suppose you're a conservative then? What are you, a fascist? Don't spout your jaded egoism off to try and convince me that your politics are "ever-so-much-more-righteous" because I am not a Roman and far too intelligent to be swayed by blatant ranting.
Obama's associations are no different than ours. I have past associations, some close enough, that are not sugar sweet. So do you. Yet, you cannot judge me based on the people I know, but rather, my actions alone. How would you define a US diplomat's associations? They have to meet people of different belief patterns and government practices all of the time. They don't always disagree, either. Know why? Because a rational human being, a good diplomat, not only offers the American perspective and purpose, but they are also good at understanding the purposes of others. i don't have to identify with communism and socialism to understand how and why both governments were developed. When Castro was elected, he was a savior, after, a tyrant.
Association means nothing when compared with a man's actions. If it did, we'd all be heathens.
It was alright teaching myself. A little more difficult than I expected because of deadlines. I had to become a lot more responsible, lol. It was rewarding in that I could pursue my own academic interests. High school bored me to no avail. I wouldn't have been able to do it, staying in public school for seven hours a day listening to those dumb teachers droning about what I already knew.
I was definitely able to pursue varied studies and eleaborate on what I already knew, rather than going over the same material constantly.
And TRUTH, get a life. Seriously. I wouldn't be attending Howard University this spring without a diploma, so put 1 and 1 together, if you can count that high.
