the question i pose to you all... oh and hey yall... is what do yall think of people who Obtain thier letters and all of a sudden they jus forget who they were... for instance.... i had a homie who joined ok ok ok lol and now its like he dont know me no more... i understand its gone change u for the better and make u grow. but disowning ya homiess... i think its shady... IM NOT MAKIN A GENERALIZATION IM JUS COURIOUS AS TO HOW GREEKS FEEL ABOUT IT
back to the topic at hand....
People who become TOOO brand new have always been one of the things that has irked me when people find new cliques in general. Even outside of fraternities.
I don't see this with guys as much. I mainly see this with women. Quite often I'll see people join an organization and its like their past is just erased. Like there was no life before and all life in the present revolves around XYZ. That always irked me because those are the people that truly didn't have knowledge of self previous to joining whatever org.
Y'all what I'm talking about. You go on their facebook and see nothing but albums revolving around XYZ... and like 2 pictures of their friends b4 (AND they joined their junior/senior year lol).
I will say this.... if he's a neo give him a semester or two adjust. When joining a fraternal organization there is going to be an influx of new people in your life and its going be a social overload. If you stick around he's gonna know who his real friends are.
My best friend since Freshmen year is still my best friend 6 years later. He's part of my frat's extended family and is received as such.
At Morehouse's Rush there usually a lecture on greek history in America givin by campus campus historian (who coincidentally is an Alpha as well).
Alpha's claim to be the oldest SURVIVING black greek lettered organization, however, its usually common knowledge of the attempts to establish one previous to. Usually if you talk to one who's knowledgeable they usually don't have any qualms with pointing out that fact.
In fact research the Boule whenever you get a chance. It's been a cool minute since I've heard Skip Mason's lecture but if I remember correctly that is the first recorded black fraternal organization.
Dang... apparently a lot has happened since i've last been on here. Maybe i should go back...
nah... on second thought lol. i think i'mma go work out and get a donut afterwards instead lol...
I LOVE MY I! E!-T!-A! P-IIIIIIIII! WHEN I EAT MY PIIEEEEE!!! TILL THE DAY I DIIIIIE!!!!
lol... y'all know if i I EtA PI was real @ an HBCU thats prolly how it would go down right there lol.
Now.. that's funny! Why in the world do these guys in these Frat's try to act like some thugs? It's either you are going to be a nerd or a thug. You can't do both! LOL
how about being a normal well adjusted guy... its not like those are the only 2 options.
it has nothing to do with being in a frat or not... if anything that cultural issue but thats another topic/forum.
"You mentioned that Fraternities are not clubs, but actually they pretty much are. "
Geez... You say this with such authority on the matter. Golly... lol. I'mma have to leave it alone.
"They do a little community service here and there but pretty much it is just a social club. After people graduate, they stop doing community service and quit being involved in their Greek organizations. I wish that Black people would recognize this stuff for what it really is. The white people actually come to the realization that the Greek stuff is just some college fun and you don't hear them mention any of the stuff after college."
I'm not a member of the NPHC. I have brethren from all backgrounds and walks in life (especially white ones) and they are just as diehard as any other member. ESPECIALLY after they graduate and mature well into their old age...
Anybody who joins an organization and dismisses as just a fad didn't deserve to part of it from jump. Thats the person's fault, not the organization's... they don't represent me or any other respective organization (by choice).
"Actually, that is not always a positive thing. Some people you might not need to be around. If they are a negative influence or the type of people who might devalue you, you would be better off not being around those type of individuals. "
Let me ask you this... If that is an issue... is the problem that these people were strong enough to negatively influence an individual, or that individual values were too weak to begin with to become a positive influence in the formers life, making THEM a better person instead?
On that note i'm done. Back to the usual programming...
Queer Eye for the Phi Nu Pi Guy @ 9pm EST got cancelled and is being replaced with KAPsi Idol... guess what song will NOT be on there lol.
Karolina... get ya goofy bruh who made the song. Its ok man... we all got em.
Then again... Honestly... I still don't think it was a Kappa. I don't think his LBs would have given him the "Yo that song is DOPE" thumbs up lol. Gay or not... its just extra sappy lol...
I'm not dismissing the organizations values.
People should look to it as what it truly is: "a social club".
"So all that stuff about brotherly love is a bunch of hogwash!"
~You
That sounds pretty dismissive to me. Granted, you said some valid things, but like i said before nothing is perfect, the ideals are however humans are flawed and therefore may not represent these ideals to the best of their ability.
I will agree on one thing only, being is a very serious matter but some people do go over the top with their affiliation almost crossing the line of idolatry. (key words being SOME people... as in not most... but a very small portion)
When you think about it... if a fraternity is able to bring together people who normally wouldn't chill with each other to work towards one/several common goals what does that say about the organization? Not to mention create bonds that normally wouldn't have existed had they not gone through the experience. In fact when you think about it... how do people become friends in the first place?
When you are part of true fraternity then those friends you already have become part of that extended family. I know my chapter brothers would take care of my bestfriend L as if he was a bruh and likewise with me and theirs.
Finally, You as well as anybody else reads this needs to understand one thing...
FRATERNITY does not equal CLUB.
I'll leave it at that. Its kinda one of those things you either get or don't
You can flick on the lights in a room for somebody sitting in darkeness but it does nothing for them if they choose to keep their eyes closed. Its an ancient proverb i just made up...
back to the normal programming... which apparently is something on LOGO because i listened to the song again and its still gay lol...
