It's so good to hear that some of u from Xavier, Dillard, and other N.O schools are alive & doing well. That is truly a blessing. A few minutes ago i just got a call from a cousin of mine who attends Xavier, and i was so relieved to hear she is doing alright. According to her, school is shut down indefinately. So in the meantime, students are left to just sit and wait, or to transfer to another school.
Howard and other DC schools are currently taking transfers from that region. They called my cousin and told her all she has to do is fill out a application and they will try to accomodate her as soon as possible. Only catch is, HU isn't really able to give out financial aid or housing becuz everything is pretty much gone. Plus i feel bad, becuz alot of those students had already paid for their tuition for the semester or had some type of scholarship at their previous school. Nevertheless, it's just good to see that other HBCUs (as well as PWIs) are stepping in and trying to help in whatever way they can.
The rally/memorial service that we had today on the yard really made it hit home to some people how serious this situation is. Alot of students here have no home to return to or are missing loved ones. I would like to encourage everyone to not just be a spectator. Find a local community service organization (or start one if u have to) and donate clothes, money, sanitary supplies, or whatever u can to help with relief. Continue to pray for those who are suffering. It's real out there ya'll
I'm currently a Xavier student and Xavier just posted that school will reopen Jan 4th (supposedly). I am also a student who is transfering to Howard on Tuseday. I'm actually lucky because i applied there last year when i was looking for a college to attend. Therefore i dont have to apply again and i can just enroll. The issue with money, i believe depends on the student, i'm a lucky one because my brother goes to Howard and has been talking to them since Monday, so i pay nothing up front. The money that i paid to Xavier will roll over and go to Howard.
Whatever lies they are feeding you about Xavier reopening soon, don't buy into it. Plan otherwise. Their intentions are good, but it will take atleast 4-5 months to clean that school up and pass inspections.
No one ever said that Xavier is going to reopen soon, thats why we are looking at other schools to attend. We know that it's highly unlikely for us to go back to Xavier anytime this year.
Hey DR. ASH DO U KNO WHAT THE LINK IS TO IT BECAUSE I CANT FIND IT....
AND KAMI DO U KNO IF ANYONE WHO ACTUALLY STAYED?
I FEEL LIKE I JUST HAVE A MASSIVE HEADACHE BUT MY MOM IS TALKING TO A BUNCH OF SCHOOLS THAT R WILLING TO TAKE IN STUDENTS FROM THE GULF AREA AND THEYRE CALLING THE HOUSE AND IM LIKE CAN I AT LEAST HAVE A DAY TO RELAX AND ABSORB WHAT IS HAPPENING BEFORE I START PLANNING THE REST OF MY SEMESTER? I MEAN YES I KNO I HAVE TO GO SOMEWHERE AND VA DOES HAVE SOME PRETTY GOOD SCHOOLS BUT NO ONE IN MY HOUSE REALLY UNDERSTANDS WHAT I FEELING RIGHT NOW.... BUT I THINK ILL BE OK ONCE THIS WEEK IS OVER!
Hey Tiffini,
actually i know a few people that stayed, Rachels roommate is one of them. Right now they are being bused to Southern or Gramblin University. Umm right now i'm just sick of watching CNN, you cant get away from it. Of course people want their news but its just so depressing. I want to go back too Xavier so bad. I feel you on the school thing. I went to Fisk today, and have to go back tomorrow. The thing is money. I'm trying to go to school and have to pay no money. Some colleges are allowing students to go there and will just take the money the students have already paid for the college they were supposed to be attending. It is really hectic because you dont want to fall behind but you also need time to recooperate. I just went to some stores today, might as well start buying clothes, because my three outfits are running pretty low.
man Bush can't do nothin to help the gas prices. He's doin what he can...but man the only person who can do anything is GOD, no offense.
It's Bush's job to do something, thats why he is the president. We have oil dont get it twisted. We are basically the wealthies country in America, we can buy oil.
i have no problem with people looting if they are getting necessities(sp?) but when i saw the B*tch on MSNBC talkin bout, im bout to get me some shoes, with a bag full of nikes in her hand, thats where i draw the line...lock her ass up sheriff.
taking clothes and shoes are necessities, you still need dry clothing. Now taking microwaves, thats where the line needs to be drawn.
(sigh) this is a time where people come together... you already have thousands possibly dead, and then you gonna shoot... da hell is wrong w/ people? :x
It's called America. People have so many freedoms you forget what it is.
Besides the fact that it is America, it's called people going crazy. People are losing their minds. They have lost everything else so the last thing to go is their minds.
I am a current Xavieritte and a freshman at that. I never thought anything like this would happen. I stay on campus cuz im from Va. but when they said it was a cat 4 and ONLY a voluntary evac I knew I had to get out( we went thru isabelle a few years ago here). I mean people were sckeptical because everytime one headed their way something would divert it or it would die out. Luckily I had a friend who offered to take me to dallas with her fam and weve been there for the past few days(im home now) . It's horrifying not knowing whats going on.... i mean u can only watch cnn so many times before u feel like ur gonna burst its so sad. I mean how shitty is it when ur schools emergency website sas the school is closed indefinetly? I was loving being in school even if it was only a week and now i have to think about going somewhere where i dont wanna be.... and my friend doesnt even kno what her house is that her immigrant parents worked so hard for... i mean the i10 is gone, historic buildings down, glass busted everywhere, looters goin crazy, superdome fallin apart, people have died thinkin they could ride it out and yeah they r stupid becuz it is BELOW SEA LEVEL AND IT FLOODS ALL THE TIME WITH NORMAL RAIN, i mean what else is there to say but to just pray for anyone and everyone there whether they made it out or not.... cuz material things can be replaced over time but ur life cannot!
Hey Tiffini, its Kami
Yeah looking at New Orleans on CNN is pretty bad. And the way Xavier handled the entire situation is bullshit. You cant tell someone there is a hurricane coming but you dont have to evacuate. I'm very thankful i got out, all my stuff is gone but i'm alive. Now i have to go to a different school, broke with 4 pair of clothes. Students wont be going back until January at the earliest. The city will be drained, and sanitized, etc. The gov't wont allow New Orleans to turn into a body of water, thats loosing billions of dollars. It was a major tourist attraction and had plenty of casinos. New Orleans will never be the same, but it will stand again.
Well you have to realize that some students have no choice but to stay. I go to Xavier and can tell you a number of students who couldnt get out. And those that are driving are driving everywhere and have found nothing because everything is booked up. Its plenty of students just driving from state to state trying to find shelter. Some reluctantly have gone back to Louisiana.
Umm i've been at Xavier for two weeks now and it has been pretty cool. Now i know what everyone was talking about when they said Xavier gives tons of work. Other than adjusting to the work load i'm good
Man, Im just sayin...that cat is a pussy...they gon be tearin into his asshole and snatchin up his kibbles n bits...he gon be walkin wit his tail in the air and an arch in his back...Brett trade that N*gga in..or Bob Barker that N*gga...get him Spade or Nutered...
  it just gets funnier and funnier each time
