Morehouse: the dorms, academics, and just life in general Posted on 05-18-2007

How are Morehouse's dorms ? Which is the best dorm to live in? How are Morehouse's academics. What is there to do at Morehouse? My biology teacher went to Spelman and said that Morehouse was a great school but I just wanted some more opinions.

Do you think that those students who attended predominately white high schools where the emphasis on clothes is "different" will feel like they have to run out and buy a closet full of Polo's or whatever the brand of the moment is ? They are used to seeing people come to school in pajamas.
Ima be real with this answer...Morehouse students, on the whole, dress lol. There are people, who, of course, wear ballin shorts and tees, but alot of people do dress. All I can say is, do you. If you like to dress and have hott clothes, this is the place to wear them, if you dont, it doesnt matter, be you. You will see people in pajamas, but you will also see quite a few people in designer stuff, so just do you, but be sure to always remember that one, you want to represent yourself well first, two, you want to represent your institution well, and three, people are ALWAYS watching you and you may never know how important that person could be so carry yourself how you want to be portrayed basically.

I got lucky with the scholarship I got to go there. I asked because I'm looking at round 10K in loans my first year their and browsing the Morehouse site-the quest of finding money didn't appear to be promising. Where have you gone to get money for school? Can you describe an instance where you had gotten money while attending Morehouse?

For real, I was in the same situation you are in now last year. My mother had to pay basically 10,000 for my room and boar since my tuition was thankfully covered through my academic scholarship lol. I had a few outsie scholarships from different groups, but for real, all i can say is contact the bonner office or look for different outside scholarships you have access too now. This coming school year I will be a resident assistant in Graves Hall so that takes care of my room fees. There are a lot of resources and ways of getting around things once you get there so always just be aware of things going on and opportunities that may arise.

What is the bonner office? I asked because I debating right now about wheter or not I should go to James Madison where I gotten a full ride too. I sitting down still asking myself is the possible debt worth it? My efc is zero. So, if a loan is taken out it going to be in my name.

The bonner office handles alot of community service opportunities at school, and I beleive they have a scholarship, I do not, however, know the details of it. I was, again, in a similar position as you before I came to Morehouse. UVA had given me a better deal, I would only have to pay like 3,000, but I fell in love with Morehouse when I visited and knew that was the place I needed to go to school. It is a sacrifice, but college is about ALOT more than money, even though that is important. You have to go to the place where you feel you will grow and learn the most, in and OUTSIDE the classroom. To me, it was definitely worth it, I have had the best year of my life and have made some of the best friends and connections I will ever have. Morehouse is truly one of a kind and to me, the best place for a black male to go to school, but you have to decide what is best for you in the end. BTW, one of my best friends goes to JMU lol.

I feel you on the post. However, Morehouse administration have been giving me the run around. I just got my fin. aid. award letter to day with the scholarship on it. I don't have the housing information or things about freshman orientation, meal plans and class scheduling. I have to get this stuff sorted out.

Morehouse is a black school, and although people think it operates differently than the stereotype, it doesnt. You wont be getting your housing and nso info until mid-end of July if not right before you get to school in Aug. You can register for classes now if you can get on tigernet BUT it is suggested that you wait til NSO to register for classes so that you can get academic advisement and also know what exactly you need to be taking (get a course catalogue).
