Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1970 in Huntington, Long Island, New York. She is the third and youngest child of Patricia of Irish descent, and Alfred Roy Carey of Afro-Venezuelan descent. She is a recording artist and actress. She made her recording debut in 1990 and became the first recording artist to have her first five singles top the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. According to Billboard magazine, she was the most successful artist of the 1990s in the United States. Mariah was named the best-selling female pop artist of the millennium at the 2000 World Music Awards. Coming off of her latest album, E=MC², "Touch My Body" became Carey's 18th number-one single on Billboard magazine's Hot 100, second only to The Beatles who have 20 number-one singles.
As an actress, Mariah has starred in eight movies including The Bachelor,Glitter & You Don't Mess With The Zohan. She is scheduled to appear in the movie, Push, later this year as a social worker. There is a broadway play in the works about Mariah's life. Leona Lewis, Vanessa Hudgens & Eva Longoria are possibilities for portraying her on stage. Aside from music and acting, she's working on her jewelry and accessory line, fragrance collection and her philanthropic efforts with Make-A-Wish and other organizations.
