I really didn't know much about the Grooves or the Swings either. I have a SiSTAR thats a Swing and we have a few rather inactive Grooves on campus. All I have seen them do is pledge a line of GEMS. (An auxillary group that stands for Grooves Eminent something....)
You know more of their acronym than I do  Anyway, some chapters are more active off campus than on campus. Even some people at HU didn't know we had an active chapter until we probated.....even though our chapter has gotten recognition for doing mentoring and performing community service in Hampton Roads area. We just don't so a lot of on campus activities (yet).

GEM = Grooves Eminent Mark I don't know about Swings but Groove were found Oct 12 1962. They are a social fellowship, back in the day they did have duel membership but it has been cut out.

Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship has a different philosophy than being a member of a Greek Letter organization. They were founded in the 1960s in the height of the Civil Rights Movement and didn't feel that blacks should associate themselves with Greeks based on African and Greek history. They used to have a big presence at Fayetteville State and Winston-Salem State. I'm not sure if they still hold that position.

Groove Phi Groove is a non Greek Social Fellowship founded at Morgan State University October 12, 1962. We were founded as an alternative to Greek fraternities. It is documented historical fact that the Greeks and other European civilizations sent their intellectuals, scientists, mathematicians, and astronomers to Kemet (Egypt) to study. We are founded on Blackness, activisim, and camaraderie. We are currently active at schools in NY, NJ, RI, PA, MD, NC, SC, GA, TX, and LA. We have Graduate chapters in additional states. If anyone is interested in more info contact me. I'd be glad to share.
