Academic Adviser (5637)
The Academic Adviser will provide accurate advisement, course selection, and program planning for declared School of Education, Health and Human Behavior (SEHHB) majors. As Adviser, the incumbent will present information about the SEHHB at recruitment functions such as PREVIEW, Fall Visit Day, the Schoolís Open House, and community college career days. Additionally, the Academic Adviser will provide informational transcript reviews for prospective SEHHB students; assist students in the interpretation of university policies; work closely with Program Directors to ensure the smooth matriculation of students into and through programs; and assist the Director, Program Directors, and Associate Dean in development a variety of annual reports. He or she will also assist program directors with programmatic changes to ensure alignment with university general education requirements and Illinois certification requirements with the guidance of the Director and Licensure Officer. The Academic Adviser may be assigned other related tasks in support of the Schoolís mission and goals.

Qualifications & Requirements Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Masterís degree in student personnel, higher education or a closely related field is required.
Experience in academic advisement and/or other relevant areas of student personnel services is/are also required.
Ideal candidates should demonstrate excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, organization and planning skills.
Practical knowledge of college student development theory.
Experience working in higher education is recommended.
Experience with a computerized student information system (Banner or other) is preferred.
Familiarity with multicultural, cognitive, social and other developmental concepts are desirable.
