Research Technician I, Vaccine Design

The McGuire lab, within the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division, is recruiting a technician to assist with a project involving the design and testing of novel vaccines against HIV-1. The main focus will be the cloning, expression, purification, and characterization of recombinant proteins. Additionally, the candidate will perform some general lab duties. The candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
Design cloning strategies using both PCR-based and synthetic DNA.
Expression and purification of protein from mammalian cell culture.
Antibody binding assays –ELISA, BLI
Antibody purification from Human serum and from immunized animals.
Cell culturing and virus neutralization assays
Collect and analyze data and maintain experimental records
Perform statistical analysis of test results and prepare written reports on work performed.
Operate and carry out basic maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Perform other duties as required.
BA/BS degree required with experience in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, Immunology or similar areas of focus. Expertise with tissue culture and recombinant DNA is required. On-hands experience with protein purification is preferred. The candidate must be someone with great attention to detail, who is well-organized, self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments. Salary will be commensurate with (appropriate) experience.
