Status: Full-time Exempt

The Job
The Opportunity Network is looking for a driven and dynamic individual to join our collaborative Student Services and Program Operations team. The Student Services and Program Operations Assistant will provide instruction and logistical
support for weekly workshops for cohorts of OppNet Fellows in 11th and 12th grade. The Program Assistant will have an integral role on the Student Services and Program Operations team by also supporting the organization’s recruitment efforts,
special events, and overall program coordination to ensure OppNet Fellows are having an impactful, meaningful, and engaged experience in the program. The Program Assistant will work with outstanding students, enjoy the freedom to create and collaborate, and seize a real opportunity to create social change. This is an ideal position for an emerging professional interested in learning the ins and outs of out of school programming striving toward educational equity. The position is located in downtown Manhattan.

The Person

The candidate will

Program Coordination, Operations, and Assistance – 25%
• Prepare for and facilitate 11th and 12th grade Fellows weekly workshops and Summer Institute sessions
• Run day-to-day operations/logistics (i.e. room/food set-up, attendance) of the 11th grade Fellows program
• Participate in Career Fluency facilitation training led by OppNet staff
• Serve as one of the main points of contact for first year, 11th grade Fellows to ensure students are having a good experience in the program
• Assist with 11th grade data collection specific to student progress (e.g. attendance, assignments, transcripts) and reconciling program expenses
• Work with the Program Manager of Curriculum and Special Events to make updates and enhancements to existing Career Fluency® curriculum

Special Student Events – 25%
• Work with the Student Services and Operations team to coordinate logistics for annual intensives (i.e. confirm
space, food, scheduling, student communication, materials, etc.)
• Assist with facilitation of annual intensives and special student events as needed (e.g. summer institute, college
application boot camp, college transition boot camp, speed networking, career fluency panels, etc.)
• Help plan general events and trips and handle related operational tasks (i.e. transportation, security lists, site confirmation)
• Collaborate with full program team on all aspects of Fellows programming and special events

Student Services – 25%
• Communicate regularly with Fellows, parents/guardians, as well as guidance counselors regarding expectations and assignments
• Manage various communication platforms to communicate with 11th grade Fellows (e.g. Friday Five electronic newsletter, text message alerts, email, etc.)
• Collaborate with the program team to coordinate weekly workshop preparation meetings
• Collaborate with the Program Manager, Student Services and Program Operations to streamline the communication process and establish best practices for communication for all high school Fellows
• Build meaningful relationships with Fellows and meet with Fellows for one-on-one and group check-ins and office hour sessions
• Liaise with the College Guidance and Transition team to ensure 11th grade Fellows transition smoothly between first and second year of the OppNet program
• Compile and disseminate OppNet’s weekly Diversity, Equity and Inclusion newsletter under the guidance of the Program Manager, Students Services and Program Operations

Recruitment – 15%
• Schedule and conduct information sessions in OppNet space and at partner sites/high school
• Process and evaluate student applications and interview prospective Fellows
• Communicate regularly with applicants and partners
• Field questions and concerns from students and applicants
• Assist recruitment managers with recruitment team trainings

Summer Opportunities – 10%
• Work with the internship and enrichment program staff to provide insight on student interests and OppNet standing to match 11th grade Fellows with summer opportunities

Qualifications & Requirements
• B.A. from a U.S. accredited U.S. college/university
• One to three years of work experience, facilitation or instruction experience preferred but not required
• Experience in youth development, preferably with high school students
• Demonstrated ability to connect with high school and college-level students from historically underserved and
underrepresented communities
• Can facilitate interactive workshops in rigorous but dynamic fashion; understands how to be both nurturing and demanding; appreciates boundaries, but not afraid to push or challenge
• Demonstrated skill set in project management, including:
o ability to keep a project moving toward successful completion
o awareness of budget parameters
o ability to set and meet deadlines
o understands how metrics and competencies are connected to various projects
o effective cross-departmental communication
o detail oriented
o outstanding organizational skills
o creative and critical problem-solving skills
• Superb written and oral communication skills
• Comfort and familiarity with data management and Microsoft Excel a plus
• In addition to English fluency, fluent/proficient in Spanish, Mandarin and/or Bengali a plus, but not required
• Availability and willingness to facilitate workshops during the school year until approximately 7:30pm Monday through Thursday
• The role requires availability on 2-3 weekends per year
