Job Description:
The Buckley Performing Arts Center consists of two theaters; one a full-stage proscenium theater with ample flies and wings seating 438, and a small theater of limited stage size, having no flies or wings. We maintain a full schedule of theatrical productions, concerts, children's theater, meetings and conferences. We also assist with theatrical technical needs for other areas of the college as needed. We are a professionally oriented educational facility, and we are seeking someone who will bring their passion for theatre to our team of dedicated professionals, students, and volunteers. The basic purpose of this work is to provide technical support for instructional, research, experimental and other related activities at state institutions of higher education.

Description of Duties:

Responsible for maintenance and operation of all equipment used for sound, set construction, and general stage operation and safety.
Will organize and attend load-ins/outs, strikes, technical rehearsals, change overs, and most performances.
Maintain technical equipment for both theatres, including tools, instruments, speakers, etc.
Maintain the facility's inventories of sets, props, and costumes, and maintain accurate records.
Provide training to more inexperienced members of the technical crew when needed.
Safely execute all scenic and sound designs with the aid of technical assistants, student/community volunteers and/or the originating designer.
Attend all technical and dress rehearsals, production meetings, and some performances.
Review and in some instances generate scenic and sound designs.
Specific Job Responsibilities Include:

Must have knowledge and skill in the following: uses of small hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, hand-held power tools such as drills, the reading and interpreting of documents such as manuals, specifications, blueprints, drawings, and plans.
Ability to use precision measuring equipment, gauges and instrumentation.
Must be able to follow oral and written instructions, to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with others, to give oral instructions in a precise, understandable manner.
Must be organized and communicate effectively.
Such statement of specific duties shall fall within the Human Resources Division Classification Specification. All higher education Classification Specifications shall be available at the Board of Higher Education website: www.mass.edu

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time or equivalent part-time, experience in technical work supporting research, instructional or experimental activities and (B) of which at least one year must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.


An Associate's or higher degree with a major in a directly related scientific or technical field may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required (A) experience.*

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.

Preferred Qualifications:

BFA, or BA/BS in theatre preferred.
Experience and skills in all phases of technical theatre including drafting software, set construction, sound, and general theatre maintenance.

Additional Information:
AFSCME union position, full-time, state funded with benefits

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday; requires some nights and weekends during productions.

Salary: $804.43 - weekly ($41,830.36 annual) Grade 15 Step 1
