Job Description

The Global Pollution Observatory in the Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society at Boston College seeks a Data Analyst with a master's degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, data science, statistics, public health, social work, economics or a related area who will report directly to the Observatory Director and participate in the Observatory's work of aggregating, analyzing, archiving and disseminating data on pollution and pollution-related disease in cities and countries around the world.

The Global Pollution Observatory will build upon and continue the work of the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health https://www.thelancet.com/commissions/pollution-and-health, which reported in 2017 that pollution– air, water, soil, and chemical pollution - is the largest environmental cause of disease and death in the world today and is responsible for an estimated 9 million premature deaths each year—16% of all deaths worldwide.

Responsibilities:

Assemble and critically analyze data on pollution and pollution-related disease from multiple sources in the United States and globally.

Develop data tables and charts for incorporation into abstracts, manuscripts and grants.

Generate maps showing patterns and trends in pollution and pollution-related disease.

Prepare grant applications and manuscripts.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $56,950 to $71,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience.Requirements

Master's in public health or equivalent degree.

Minimum of two years of data analysis at the graduate level or in graduate school.

Experience with large data sets. Experience with databases is desirable.

Understanding of and experience with a a variety of statistical methods an software such as SPSS, STATA, ATLAS TI, R, and SAS.

Ability to produce clear, comprehensible graphic displays of quantitative information.

Ability to work collaboratively in a high interdisciplinary environment.

Ability to produce reports and grant applications using EndNote and Microsoft Office Suite.

Good writing and communications skills.
