Job Description
Financial Accounts Technician

This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-07. At the GS-06 grade level, you will perform assignments of more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform a wide variety of Agency fiscal functions such as account receivables, debt collection activities, third party liability, and general accounting/agent cashier functions
  • Evaluate documentation, debtor payment history, debtor's situation, and timeliness of filing
  • Analyze circumstances of partial and non-payment
  • Adjudicate account receivable record based on legal guidance
  • Correspond with internal and external agency customers, beneficiaries, vendors, insurance companies, legal representatives, and General Council
  • Maintain statistical data pertaining to accounts receivable
  • Review and verify the validity of Request for Recoupment against benefit eligibility records
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-6 level, you must possess the following qualification:Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: utilizing multiple databases that contain accounting information pertaining to billing and collection activity, and resolving account inconsistencies and validating transactions.

In order to qualify for this position at the GS-7 level, you must possess the following qualification: Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specific qualifying specialized experience for this position (which should be documented on your resume) is: executing billing and follow-up collection methods on unpaid reimbursable third-party insurance cases; resolving difficult financial transactions, complaints, or discrepancies; and conducting analysis and determinations within multiple debt management systems in order to validate transactions.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
