Job Description
Human Resources Assistant (Info Systems/OA)

This position is organizationally aligned under the HR Information Systems (HRIS), Processing and Records Section of the VISN 12 Consolidated Human Resources Management Service, located at the Honey Creek Corporate Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Duties:
-Provides administrative support to all activities of the centralized human resources office.
-Provides customer service to both telephone and walk-in customers, answering routine questions.
-Answers applicants' questions on how to apply for positions via USA Jobs.
-Organizes and scans documents into employee's electronic personnel file.
-Performs basic processing and coding into the PAID system for routine actions such as awards, performance evaluations, email addresses, telework indicators, etc.
-Additional duties as required.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement, 09/12/2018.

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: providing administrative support for an office to include using a variety of automated programs to create documents, spreadsheets, etc.; analyzing and interpreting policies and procedures for applicability; tracking various types of information to provide status updates and ensure deadlines/due dates are met; performing data entry and typing correspondence and other documentation; reviewing documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines; utilizing computer skills to update/maintain spreadsheets and prepare reports.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successful completion of 4 years of education above the high school level. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05.

TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the ability to type 40 WPM.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: This work is primarily performed while sitting and can involve sitting for long periods of time, and involves some periods of walking and standing. The regular and recurring work involves sitting at a desk, conferences, meetings, etc.
