Job Description
Supply Technician

The incumbent functions as a Supply Technician in the Logistics Service at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. The position's primary purpose of the position is to ensure that supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics.

Work Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and Friday-Tuesday 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Exact schedule to be determined upon appointment.

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: VA-wide and All Status Eligibles, however, first area of consideration will be given to permanent local VAMC employees. Second area of consideration will be given to permanent VISN15 & VA employees. Third area of consideration will be given to status eligible candidates.
Current Title 38 Hybrid employees: To qualify for a Title 5 position based on the Interchange Agreement, you must meet the following:
1. Be currently serving under a permanent appointment.
2. Served continuously for at least 1 year in the other merit system prior to appointment under the interchange agreement.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-3. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of standardized supply regulations, policies, procedures, or other instructions relating to the specific functions assigned. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have auccessfully completed 4 years above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education was obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. For the GS-05, only education in excess of 60 semester hours (2 years) is creditable.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work of this position requires standing and walking during the entire workday, and frequent bending and lifting of supply packages (occasionally weighing as much as 50 pounds). The employee regularly pushes loaded carts of medical supplies (weighing up to 100+ pounds). With the assistance from other workers or weight handling equipment, the work requires moving heavier items weighing over 40 pounds.
