Job Description
Housekeeping Aid

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining assigned areas in a sanitary manner through adhering to current service procedures/policies and area work schedule. The Housekeeping Aid uses a number of different chemicals, following manufacturer/service instructions in order to clean/maintain surfaces within the facility. As a Housekeeping Aid your duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Stain removal, floor refinishing, trash collection/removal, wall/window/blind cleaning, light fixture cleaning, interior locker/furniture cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, interior terminal ned cleaning, furniture moving, equipment care and other housekeeping/linen duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate housekeeping procedures with clinical staff to respond to urgent patient care needs as well as to minimize any adverse impact on patient care.
  • Working in areas, which require special housekeeping techniques to include, but not limited to Medical and Surgical Intensive Care, Coronary Care, Pulmonary Care, Hemodialysis, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Operating Room suites, Recovery Room, Clinical Laboratory, IV Clean Room, Compound Pharmacy and Supply Processing and Distribution.
  • Other duties as assigned

Housekeeping Aids are responsible for performing a full range of housekeeping duties within the medical center that may require strenuous physical labor and strict adherence to aseptic cleaning procedures. The incumbent may be rotated through or assigned to any of the approved tour of duty.

Work Schedule: 1st Shift: 8:00 am- 4:30 pm; Mid Shift: 11:30 am - 8:00 pm; 2nd Shift: 3:00 pm-11:30 pm; 3rd Shift: 12:00 am - 8:30 am. All have weekend rotations, as well as holiday rotations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Continual and repetitive standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching are required. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to transport trash/linen cart sometimes weighing approximately 450 lbs.
