Job Description
Dentist - Lead Dentist/Chief

Candidate duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision of all Dental Personnel
  • Ensures all Dental providers practice within the scope of care and dental eligibility guidelines
  • Provides clinical guidance including patient treatment, four-handed dentistry, infection control, OSHA guidelines, x-rays and oral health education
  • Directs entry of diagnostic findings, dental care plans and completed procedures into the Computerized Patient Record System adjunct application, Dental Record manager Plus for all patients
  • Manages the service resources and Fee Basis program
  • Administers homeless Veterans Dental program
  • Has oversight of the Residency and dental residency program
  • Ensures Dental program complies with all VHA regulations and local policies
  • Complies with VHA and facility credentialing and privileging processes
  • Monitors the procurement, maintenance and calibration of dental equipment
  • Administers Dental treatment
  • Monitors and reports on Dental Service performance measures
  • Serves as the local liaison to Dental professional organizations, other government agencies, and non-VA service providers, as well as other departments within the facility

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of dental surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from a United States or Canadian school of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed or from a school (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence.
  • Completion of an approved residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
