Job Description
Program Support Assistant
  • Screens call and personally answers calls when the requested information concerns routine and procedural requirements and determines if the call requires routine or urgent attention.
  • Serves as primary fund control point clerk for reconciliation of the Pharmacy Service B09 and 1358
  • Serves as the primary timekeeper for the Pharmacy Service. Enters leave data into the computer and compiles leave records used to compile reports.
  • Collects, compiles and/or tracks statistical information in support of program operations.
  • Process documents and reports in accordance with established procedures; use software applications to draw information from a wide variety of sources in order to prepare reports; and assist in the planning, review and reporting of data/statistical results of program operations.
  • Track and trend issues related to the Pharmacy; utilize statistical data to compile monthly reports as requested for all Pharmacy staff and participates in performance improvement activities related to the program quality improvement process.
  • Serves as primary TMS administrator for the Pharmacy Service. Schedules educational training and records training sessions attended by Pharmacy staff.
  • Serves as alternate PIV sponsor and manager for the Pharmacy Service. When appropriate completes necessary documentation for PIV card issuance, replacement, renewal and PIN resetting.for Pharmacy Service.
  • Serves as point of contact for ordering office supplies for the Pharmacy Service.
  • Serves as alternate pharmacy point of contact for Pharmaceutical drug representatives signing in to be on SAVAHCS property.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-03. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

  • Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: clerical support work (i.e. handles multiple phone lines and resolves issues; scanning documents; filing; prepares meeting minutes; generate reports; prepares, types, and revises memorandums, reports, SOPs, formal letters, etc.); tracks, documents, and maintains employee and Financial records; and data entry. OR,
  • Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have4 years of education above high school level . OR,
  • Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a Bachelor's degree..

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary. Typically, the incumbent sits comfortably to do the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
