Department Chair, Nursing
The University of Saint Joseph invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair, Department of Nursing in the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Sciences. The Chair is the chief academic officer of the Department and is responsible for planning, development, execution, operation and evaluation of all graduate and undergraduate programs in the Department. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Sciences. Rank and salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
• Leadership in academic strategic program planning, curriculum development, and evaluation within the department in collaboration with the School Dean
• Departmental implementation of academic policies and regulations
• Oversight of implementation of professional standards based on best practices, and responsibility for obtaining and maintaining departmental accreditations and approvals
• Management of the department’s budget, personnel, and data
• Faculty and staff evaluation and recommendation
• Faculty support in professional-development related endeavors
• Representing the department and serving as its point of contact relative to recruitment, articulation, curriculum, course scheduling, and student recognition
Qualifications & Requirements The ideal candidate is a collaborative and innovative leader with a commitment to academic excellence. The successful candidate will possess a graduate degree in nursing and an earned doctorate (preferred in nursing or education), with a record of distinguished teaching and scholarship that merit appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Preference will be given to candidates with prior administrative experience, a record of securing external funding, and an experience with CCNE accreditation. All candidates must be eligible for licensure in the State of Connecticut. This is a 12-month faculty position and appointment will be as either a tenure-track or tenured faculty depending upon the finalist’s qualifications and experience.

School and Department
The Department of Nursing is one of six departments housed in the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Sciences (SIHS). In addition to Nursing, the SIHS has the Departments of Counseling and Applied Behavioral Studies, Human Development and Family Studies, Nutrition and Public Health, Psychology, and Social Work and Equitable Community Practice. The nationally recognized Department of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and is approved by the Connecticut Board of Examiners for Nursing. USJ’s nursing faculty consists of dedicated professionals who are engaged in teaching, clinical practice, and professional scholarship, committed to the Mercy mission, and involved in a number of outreach projects in the local, national, and international community.
The Department currently enrolls approximately 300 undergraduate, 160 graduate, and 22 doctoral students. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, RN to BS and Accelerated Second Degree Programs; Master of Science in Nursing with specialties in Psychiatric Mental Health and Family Nurse Practitioner Programs- Advanced Practice Registered Nursing (APRN), Nursing Education, and a Post-Master’s Degree Certificate as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (APRN). The Department also offers an online Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program with a focus on leadership. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Science.
