Job Description
Human Resources Business Partner
The HR Business Partner is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full-cycle Human Resources support to assigned client groups. The HRBP consults and advises assigned client groups to achieve organizational results, providing exceptional internal client support, driving HR functional excellence, and implementing process improvement. This position will serve as the primary HR point of contact for the assigned client group, aligning business objectives with employees and management in designated areas. Acts as an employee champion and change agent, resolving complex employee relations issues, assesses and anticipates HR related needs and seeks to develop integrated solutions. The HR Business Partner will formulate partnerships across the HR functions to deliver value-added service to management and employees that reflect APU’s strategic goals. The HRBP should exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical princip les. This position reports to the VP of Human Resources.

Required Education
* Bachelor's degree required, SHRM certification a plus, or equivalent work experience.

Required Experience
* Minimum 5+ years Human Resources HRBP, Generalist, or other employee-facing HR experience with increasing responsibility.
* PHR or SPHR preferred.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions
* Contributes to the organization by helping identify, prioritize, and shape organizational capabilities, structures and processes.
* Acts as the trusted advisor for employees and managers by building strong relationships within the assigned span of care.
* Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues; conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations.
* Coaches managers and employees to resolve issues and develop strategies to avoid similar issues.
* Supports client group in forecasting and planning talent pipeline requirements in line with the function/business strategy.
* Prepares position descriptions, provides input to comp and coordinates staffing needs with Talent Acquisition.
* Identifies and prepares development plans for high potential employees to promote and foster their development.
* Designs effective retention strategies for client groups while using culture pulse-checks and exit data to identify trends.
* Deploys HR programs and facilitates adoption by client groups.
* Communicates client needs to other HR functions and brokers HR services.
* Partners with client group and provides guidance related to performance management.
* Advises and assists with business organizational design/structure, workforce planning and succession planning.
* Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements reducing legal risk and ensuring regulatory compliance.
* Partners with General Counsel as needed/required.
* Manages complex HR projects cross-functionally, actively identifies gaps and risks, and facilitates changes as necessary.
* Evaluates issues, patterns, and trends to provide proactive insight for solutions and program design for client groups.
* Assists in university-wide supervisor trainings.
* Ensures compliance with all federal and state employment laws; stays current with laws and trends in FMLA, SDI, PDL, PFL, and employment laws.
* Partners with HRIS, payroll, workers’ comp, leaves of absence, benefits and comp HR Specialists to provide solutions for clients.
* Serves on university committees.
