Job Description


The assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and equity is responsible for providing leadership in development, maintenance, revision, and evaluation of K-12 instructional programs while providing a safe, caring, inclusive, equitable, and challenging learning environment that is free from discrimination and harassment, to build a community that recognizes diversity as one of our greatest strengths.


Provides leadership and direction in the continuous improvement of instructional programs

Establishes a process for the ongoing evaluation of instructional programs using available data

Interprets data concerning instructional programs and makes recommendations for change

Coordinates K-12 curriculum development, revision, and evaluation

Provides leadership and direction to operationalize diversity, equity, and inclusion vision to ensure fair and equitable treatment of students, faculty, and staff

Assists educators in creating culturally supportive learning environments that ensure high expectations for the academic achievement of all students

Develops and implements district-wide training to promote cultural understanding and competency and a climate of equity and inclusion

Collaborates with other academic leaders to support inclusion of equity work throughout core district processes related to the hiring and induction of educators and community engagement

Assists the district and schools in resolving educational and diversity issues affecting educators, students, parents, and in the community

Coordinates Curriculum Council and K-12 subject area committees

Oversees and coordinates selection of instructional materials including textbooks

Administers federal and state entitlement programs including application preparation and budget development

Works with Curriculum Council to review and/or revise the plan for academic intervention services

Works with administration, Curriculum Council, and J-D/Syracuse University Teaching Center to develop and implement a comprehensive professional learning plan as well as coordinate, plan, and evaluate specific professional learning efforts, including programs for superintendentís conference days

Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services to coordinate and provide professional learning in the area of technology integration


Represents the district in external organizations as requested by the superintendent

Serves as District Test Coordinator

Serves as DASA Compliance Officer

Serves as Title IX Compliance Officer

Coordinates management system for professional learning

Co-chairs District Steering Committee

Coordinates and monitors home school program

The assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction, and equity reports directly to the superintendent of schools.
