Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on July 19, 2009 Former Benedict College basketball standouts Darius Lane, Bennie Lewis, David Wine, and Martinis Woody have ended their first season of professional basketball with the Decatur Court Kings of the World Basketball Association (WBA). Lane a former starting point guard and 2-time team MVP finished his season leading his team in assists and made 3rd Team honors All-WBA. Woody also made WBA honors being selected to the 2nd Team. Woody was among the top players of the league in blocks and steals. Lewis, a former wingman at Benedict was named Rookie of the Year and was selected 1st Team All-WBA. The 3 former teammates along with former Tiger David Wine played on the Decatur Court Kings of Decatur, GA. The mission of the WBA Exposure League is to teach, develop, and expose basketball players to NBA, NBDL, CBA, and International Scouts. Its purpose is to serve as a training ground to develop professional players, coaches, and personnel on and off the court. Emphasis is placed on fundamental development, career development, community involvement, and education. The WBA talent pool consists of professional basketball players with 5 years or less experience and each team is limited to 2 such players on their final 10 man roster. It is believed the window of opportunity for NBA hopefuls is 3 years while maintaining opportunities in other leagues such as the NBDL, CBA, and European Leagues. Within 3 months of operation (April, May, and June) programs will be implemented to assist in furthering each player’s development in career, education, and community involvement.
