Born in Brooklyn, New York of Trinidadian parents. Talita grew up immersed in the culture of the West Indies. Long has been an art specialist in Los Angeles and at various institutes of higher learning for many years. She studied with the great print-maker, Maurice Lasansky, where she earned over a period of four years a MA and a BFA.

She also received her BA at Cooper Union College of Art and Architecture in New York's Greenwich Village. She was recently a featured artist in a show titled "Pathways" which opened at the African American Museum of Art in January 2005. Ms. Long has steadily produced a wide range of work, namely oil paintings, water color and drawings, along with most forms of print-making. At present she is working on a series of works on paper and canvas for 2006.
