Old School Homecoming Dinner Skegee Style (625 hits)

I love fall when my thoughts turn to the comfort foods of home. My Mom was a great cook; and I spent hours in the kitchen with her, listening as she told stories and cooked. As a result, I have always associated story-telling with cooking. When I decided to write a cookbook, I knew that it had to contain great stories. The African Hertage Cookbook was the first in my genre of cookbooks about historic black colleges and universities. I loved telling the story of Tuskegee, Hampton, Howard and the Atlanta University Center. Not only were they meccas of black education and enlightenment, but they were also on the cutting edge of the Civil Rights Movement.

Often, at the center of these stories were the comfort foods that we still enjoy today. The menu for one of my favorite meals is found below. Enjoy!
