WHY DID ABRAHAM BREAK ALL THE IDOL GODS IN THE TEMPLE BUT ONE

WHY DID ABRAHAM BREAK ALL THE IDOL GODS IN THE TEMPLE BUT ONE
Posted By: jamal Abraham on May 11, 2010

When written Islam rose and spread to Africa in the 9th century, they found many black Africans worshipping countless Gods. There were Gods to ward off diseases, curses and bad weather. Gods of war and prosperity. Gods of love and one for evil. Anansi was a spider tricky God, common with many tribes. There was Achimi, the God of meat-hunting. With so many Gods and statues associated with them, African civilizations had to concern themselves of not upsetting one God in pleasing another. Skilled craftsmen had to be used on carving out these God statues, taking time away from growing agricultural systems and infrastructure. Almost 200 Gods and worshipped in Africa, one for every emotion and sensation. One for the planetary objects and environment.
The HOLY QURAN: Chapter 21 verses 51---67
" And certainly We gave to Abraham his rectitude before, and we knew him fully well. When he said to his sire and his people: What are these images to whose worship you cleave ? They said: We found our fathers worshipping them. He said: Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. They said: Have you brought to us the truth, or are you one of the triflers ? He said: Nay! Your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who brought them into existence, and I am of those who bear witness to this: And, by Allah! I will certainly strive against your idols after you go away, turning back. So he broke them into pieces, except the chief of them, that haply they may return to it.

They said: Who has done this to our gods ? most surely he is one of the unjust. They said: We heard a youth called Abraham speak of them. Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham ?
He said: Surely (some doer) has done it: the chief of them is this, therefore ask them, if they can speak. Then they turned to themselves and said: Surely you yourselves are the unjust; Then they were made to hang down their heads: Cdergtainly you know that they do not speak. He said What ! DO YOU THEN SERVE BESIDES ALLAH WHAT BRINGS YOU NOT ANY BENEFIT AT ALL, NOR DOES IT HARM YOU ? FIE ON YOU AND ON WHAT YOU SERVE BESIDES ALLAH; what ! do you not then understand ?"

Our ancestors in Africa did many wonderful things but made several major mistakes. Like any continent you must learn from the mistakes of past civilizations. Too many Gods that did nothing but absorb the time away from the people was a big mistake. I say like Abraham of old...........FIE on all these foolish Gods....they are nothing...they can do nothing....they can bring nothing....And they are no DAMN GOOD. Moving forward, the continent of Africa has embraced Islam which introduced monotheism to the people. Christianity also helped to foster a minimum of GOD, though supported a trinity approach which still was better than 200 GODS. The Belief in ONE GOD has been one of the major causes for improvement for most African countries.
