College Study Abroad Programs Grow Through University Partnerships

Posted By: Stacie Coulter on June 16, 2011 --International Studies Abroad (ISA) Develops Partnership Programs to Assist U.S. Universities Offering Courses Abroad-- Universities in the United States may now expand their own study abroad program offerings , thanks to partnership opportunities with leading international education provider, International Studies Abroad. “We are helping universities who want to change the traditional study abroad model by creating co-branded programs,” said Laura Pierce Weldon, Director of Partnership Programs. “With ISA’s Partnership Programs universities can choose to build, market and brand a study abroad program, without re-inventing the wheel.” In 2010, ISA formed the Partnership Programs division to respond to growing requests from US Universities to collaborate and build on existing ISA program foundations. “ISA was extremely flexible and accommodating while working with us to develop a partnership program in Brazil,” said Lori Lammert, Assistant Director at the Center for International Studies with Ohio University. “ISA even worked to develop a new course to fit the needs of our student population, and we knew our students were in good hands when they traveled to Brazil.” As the interest in global education grows, Partnership Programs fills a gap in a much needed market of international education. Built on existing ISA infrastructure, this division expands existing university programs by tailoring ISA programs to meet specific needs. This allows a university to create customized study abroad courses, without starting from scratch. ISA Partnership Programs can consist of the following models: modification and adoption of current ISA program; support of a bilateral exchange, where ISA provides use of the ISA office in the host country, local staff support, student orientation, housing assignments, cultural activities, excursions and insurance, while the U.S. university handles academic arrangements with the host university; or a service-learning based option combining ISA’s Experiential Learning Abroad division partnered with an ISA program. ISA assists with program development at any point during the academic year and works with schools on a case-by-case basis to co-brand promotional materials and forms for all program components. For close to 25 years, ISA has provided college students in the United States and Canada the opportunity to explore the world. ISA offers a wide variety of study abroad programs at accredited schools and universities in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, France India, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Panama, Peru, South Korea and Spain.
