Lady Hawks Announce 2011 Schedule

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's
basketball team has announced its 2011-12 schedule, which features 11 regular season
home games and an early Dec. 3 showdown against conference rival Delaware State. The
Lady Hawks will play their first game at home on Tuesday, Nov. 15 when they open their
season against Mount Saint Mary's.
In all, the Lady Hawks will play 10 non-conference games this coming season, with three
being at home. In addition to Mount Saint Mary's, the Lady Hawks will host Canisuis of
the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Monday, Nov. 21. The Lady Hawks will face
two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association champion James Madison for the first
time in program history on Thursday, Nov. 17. UMES looks to avenge last season's
down to the wire home loss against American University, three-time Patriot League
regular season champion, on Wednesday, Nov. 30.
On Tuesday, Dec. 6, UMES will begin a nine game trip facing American East
Conference foe UMBC. It will mark the fourth consecutive season the Lady Hawks and
the Retrievers will have met.


    
	 

 UMES will face teams from power conferences of the Big
Ten, the Big East, and the Atlantic Coast Conference including 2011 NCAA Tournament
team Penn State on Sunday, Dec. 11 and perennial conference power team Wake Forest
on Thursday, Dec. 29.
Saturday, January 7 will continue conference play facing the Spartans of Norfolk State
University. UMES will play seven of their 13 conference games at home. As the Lady
Hawks celebrate Homecoming they will play host to conference foe Morgan State
University on Saturday, Feb. 25. On Thursday, March 1 the Lady Hawks will finish the
regular season facing second year Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference team Savannah State.
Last season, the Lady Hawks women's basketball team posted a 12-19 record, finishing
seventh in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) with an 8-8 record respectively.
The Lady Hawks will bring back three of last season's starters in senior guard Amber
Cook (Greensboro, N.C.), senior post player Adobi Agbasi (Columbus, Ga.), and junior
forward Chelsea Sanders (Rochester, N.Y.).
