Whitney Houston's cause of death revealed by L.A. coroner (393 hits)
The toxicology report is in.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office has determined that Whitney Houston's official cause of death is: "drowning and effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use."

The singer was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton Hotel room on Feb. 11, hours before a pre-Grammy party. She was 48.

The coroner's office also said the manner of death was an "accident."

However, the toxicology report adds that "Cocaine and metabolites were identified and were contributory to the death. Marijuana, Alprazolam (Xanax), Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) and Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) were identified but did not contribute to the death."

An autopsy was conducted the day after she died. Capt. John Kades of the Los Angeles County coroner's office said at the time there was no indications of foul play and no obvious signs of trauma on Houston's body. Prescription pill bottles were found in her room, but the number of pills were "not in alarming amounts," said officials.

Dionne Warwick said earlier this month she suspected her cousin died of a "heart attack."

@Jen
I heard this on the internet a few minutes ago.
Okay... we suspected some drug use.
It was 'Whitney's time to leave.... however she comes back in the regeneration as always.
No 'grave' (which means 'hell' -not a place with a imaginery red devil that takes residence where people will burn) can hold "MY" body down... this is a Old Negro spiritual that confirms regeneration. The flesh may past but the spirit remains!!!!

Wehave not heard th estrenthof the benedril she took now have we? (smile)

Wow. I didn't see that coming. She was so thin and to think that she had heart disease just goes to show that it matters not what the size of a person is... heart disease doesn't discriminate. I've taken care of people who had heart attacks secondary to cocaine abuse. It's not a good combination any way one dares to look at it. In a artery that is already narrowed, drugs can further constrict blood the artery causing it to close completely thereby not allowing blood to circulate to vital organs. Most public places have AEDs or Defibrillators, but in order to use them, the skin must be dry.

My heart goes out to Whitney's family and friends so hopefully now they will truly get closure. I know I miss her which is the reason I have dedicated most of my face page to her on this site. I keep listening to her music over and over. What a wonderful spirit she had and truly her spirit will live on in those who loved her most, especially her daughter.

Sounds like you had a PET Scan or either a MRA Magnetic Reasonace (Imaging) for the Arteries. At any rate, the heart has to be strong and cleared before any type of major surgery. I hope your the Cardiologist will clear you for surgery, but if you do have to have some type of Cardiovascular Intervention... tech has gone far and beyond the imagination as you stated... so you'll be fine.

I'm not buying this story... Whitney may or may not have had suffered from a heart ailment prior to her expiration but I believe foul play was involved.

One report from a paramedic who administered Shots and Electro Cardiac Shock treatment in an attempt to revive Whitney openly stated that Whitney's body was covered with bruises and scratch marks consistent with a struggle for her life. And there's also the story from the man who was staying on the third floor right underneath Houston’s suite the night she died who says that a flat screen television had been been broken–the screen was smashed.

Additionally, one report, from the hotel guest occupying the room above Houston’s in the Beverly Hilton hotel, states that she heard two loud thuds and an “urgent” male voice emanating from the room below 20 minutes before Houston’s body was discovered.

Broken television? Two thuds? Our Sister Whitney was MURDERED...I have no doubts!

@Jen, because my cancer is not able to be operated on ,yet, and since I now have another appointment with the hearth specialist who did the test next Thursday..oh well at least I have had a total heard exam that I most likely needed any way. (smile)...

If there is ever any thing wrong it is best to know about it because it can only get worst if gone untreated...

@ Sister Irma,

Precisely... it's better to know what one is facing so that it can be dealt with rather than 'it' dealing with you. I have never quite understood why some people would rather not go and find out what's wrong with them. In the last 10 years, there has been more research done on heart disease in women since it doesn't present the same as it does in men. As women, we tend to have more Gastric type stomach upset like symptoms and fatigue (which we tend to attribute to doing too, much) so it (heart disease) has gone untreated in us.

@ Saint,

Definitely adding smoking in the mix further complicates things by decreasing the blood's oxygen carrying capacity, further restricting arteries that may already be compromised. Quitting smoking alone can add years to one's life and thereby increasing one's life expectancy. Patients that we see in the CCU are always asked to attend Smoking Cessation Programs because of the huge benefits that come from 'kicking the habit'.

@ Brother Rob,

Perhaps you might be right in a sense, but what is really criminal are the doctors who prescribed the medicines (minus the cocaine and marijuana) that made the cocktail. From what I understand of the final report is that the amounts of the other medications in Whitney's system were not enough to cause her any serious harm. It was the cocaine that caused her to have a coronary event and sink into her bathtub and drown.
