Are schools in America becoming that dangerous that arresting a 6-year-old for throwing a tantrum is deemed normal or routine? I am sure someone could have grabbed the child to subdue her for the sake of protection of the other students and adults involved. The average 6-year-old is not that tall or heavy. What perplexes me is what prevented the teacher from taking control from an out-of-control child? Why is 911 the answer? The statistic that African American students are far more likely to be arrested at school than their white counterparts (DOEd-Department of Education) is troubling. Change.org now has a petition calling for justice for African-American 6-year-old girl, Salecia Johnson.
Was this an overreach or was it warranted?
