Alcorn President to receive Kentucky Derby Isaac Murphy Image Award

Christopher Brown II will receive the 2012 Isaac Murphy Image Award for Education on Saturday evening, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville, Kentucky, during its annual awards ceremony honoring African Americans who have made a difference. The event is named for three-time Kentucky Derby champion Isaac Murphy, who was the first jockey inducted into horseracing’s Hall of Fame. According to the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage, President Brown received the award based on his work and contributions in advancing access to higher education and his commitment to research and academic excellence. Additionally, Dr. Brown earned his Master of Science degree in Educational Policy and Evaluation from the University of Kentucky. President Brown was also appointed a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Steve Beshear in 2011. “It is a great joy to work in a profession that truly changes lives every day,” President Brown said. “There are way too many individuals to thank for this special recognition, but I celebrate this award with my Kentucky and Alcorn families—thank you so much for your continued support.” What: The 2012 Isaac Murphy Derby Experience and Image Awards at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage will honor the following recipients: Lifetime Achievement – Mr. Danny Glover, Actor Education – Dr. M.
