Oakwood Alumna to be inducted into American Academy of Nursing

Cobb, Regional Health Administrator for Region IV (eight southeastern states), will be inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing at its Annual Meeting and Conference in Washington, D.C., on October 13, 2012. Cobb attended Oakwood prior to receiving her BSN from Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Md., in 1977. She completed her MSN, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Ga., in 1979. Selection for membership in the Academy is one of the most prestigious honors in the field of nursing. The Academy of Nursing announced that 176 nurse leaders were selected to be inducted in 2012. There are approximately 3.1 million nurses in the U.S.; however, the Academy is composed of a little more than 1,800 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research, nationally and internationally. RADM Cobb was selected for her consistent, outstanding contributions to the improvement of nursing and health care at the regional and national levels. RADM Cobb's broad public health perspective is the result of nearly 33 years of experience working with private and public partners, within the federal government, as well as in the states and local communities. She has served as the Regional Health Administrator since 2006 and is concurrently serving as Acting Regional Director of Region IV, since May 2012.
