Tom Joyner, Paul Quinn Partner to Raise Money for Community Farm (947 hits)

WHO: The Tom Joyner Foundation will be raising funds for Paul Quinn College’s “We Over Me” Community Garden as part of the Communities Foundation of Texas’ “North Texas Giving Day” online fundraising drive. Tom Joyner, host of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show and founder/chairman of the Foundation, J. Anthony Brown and Sybil Wilkes of the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Tiffany Derry, celebrity chef/Top Chef alumna and executive chef of Private/Social Restaurant in Dallas, Michael Sorrell, president of Paul Quinn College, Brent Christopher, president, Communities Foundation of Texas, State Rep. Eric Johnson (District 100), State Sen. Royce West (District 23), Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, , will be among the students and other local VIPs attending. Old School 94.5 FM also will be broadcasting live during the event.

WHAT: The Foundation will be hosting a “Taste of Paul Quinn” on the college’s campus featuring produce from the school’s community gardens and recipes using the herbs and vegetables.

WHERE: The event will take place in the Grand Lounge on the campus of Paul Quinn College, 3837 Simpson Stuart Road, Dallas, Texas.

WHEN: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13. Donations for the 2012 North Texas Giving Day will take place from 7 a.m. to Midnight.

WHY: The Tom Joyner Foundation’s (www.tomjoynerfoundation.org) mission since 1998 has been to assist Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). The partnership with Paul Quinn is part of the Foundation’s on going efforts to ensure the future of HBCUs. The “We Over Me” Community Garden, located on two acres of what used to be the college’s football field, is setting out to provide affordable and healthy food options in Southern Dallas, serve as a model for urban redevelopment and promote healthy eating and living in an area known as a food desert.
