PVAMU Collegiate 100 to Honor Mayors and Championship Athletes with Power 100 Awards (617 hits)

Prairie View, Texas - November 7, 2012 – The members of the Collegiate 100 and 100 Collegiate Women will present the Power 100 Awards at its Black Tie Scholarship Awards Gala set for November 16, 2012 in the Willie A. Tempton Student Center Ballroom at Prairie View A&M University.

Honorees of the award include Honorable Mayors Frank D. Jackson (Prairie View) and Michael Wolfe (Hempstead), members of the Women’s Basketball and Bowling Teams and Coaches of Prairie

View A&M University and several students.

"These persons were selected for this honor because of their achievement and commitment to excellence,” says Patrick Gray, president of Collegiate 100. “When we decided to host this event we thought about the impact these persons have made on the community these past years and thought it befitting to honor them. They are Keeping it 100™”

The gala is the first event of the magnitude for the Collegiate, re-chartered at the university in March 2011. The organization was created at Prairie View A&M University in 1993. Funds raised from the event will support scholarships to students and other special programs at the university.

In recent months the Collegiates have sponsored several programs to impact the university community to include the Fall Career Expo, held prior to the University Career Festival, Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon distribution, Mentoring the 100 Way with the Freshmen, College Tour for elementary through high school students and Voter Registration Drives.

Realizing the importance of continuity in programming the Collegiate is expected to formally induct about 35 new members at the gala as well. Faydrian Pearson, a junior math education major is the president of the 100 Collegiate Women of America.

The Collegiate 100 is an auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of America and is sponsored at Prairie View A&M University by the 100 Black Men of Metro Houston, Inc. The mission is to support the 100 in its four for the future programs: mentoring, education, health and wellness and economic empowerment to improve the quality of life of the community.
