Alcorn has been nominated for seven awards by the Center for HBCU Advocacy Inc.

Posted By: Reginald Culpepper on May 09, 2013 Alcorn is the 2012 HBCU of the Year Winner and is competing again for that honor this year. “These nominations are due to the hard work and diligence of faculty, staff, students and alumni,” said Dr. M. Christopher Brown II. “This has been another stellar year of academic and program success.” Alcorn recently experienced record gains in fundraising, enrollment and alumni participation. The university is also known as a national model for diversity and inclusion, and was profiled on ESPN as the first historically black college in the SWAC to hire a non-black football coach. The awards applaud HBCU influence on American culture. Historically black colleges and universities from across the country compete in the annual event that recognizes leaders, successful programs and media coverage of those campuses. This year’s awards attracted more than 600 nominations from administrators, students, alumni and supporters of 45 four-year colleges and universities. Alcorn’s nominations reflect high achievements among students, programs and leaders. Best Student Organization - Alcorn State University Diversity Champions Best Alumni Publication — Alcorn the Magazine Best Research Center - Alcorn State University Center for Conservation Research Best Nursing Program - Alcorn State University School of Nursing Female Faculty Member of the Year - Myrlie Evers Williams Male President of the Year - Dr. M. Christopher Brown HBCU of the Year - Alcorn State University In the HBCU of the Year category, Alcorn is competing against Howard University and Spelman College, among others.
