Education Paths That Guide You Through the Forest of College (328 hits)

When you first enter college, it can be a confusing and overwhelming environment. With so many classes, majors, degrees and career paths from which to choose, how do decide where to focus your efforts? If you donít have a clear idea of how you want to proceed, you might look at several possible educational paths and decide which seems most suitable.

The Liberal Arts Path

While conventional wisdom has it that humanities degrees are not very valuable nowadays, this is not always the case. In fact, many employers are impressed with the skills you learn when studying subjects such as English, history, political science and other humanities subjects. A degree in a humanities field is also a good preparation for fields such as teaching, law and politics. Even employers in the tech field now recognize the value of liberal arts degrees.

The Healthcare Path

Many healthcare careers are in high demand. This is a long term trend that shows no signs of letting up. Some of your choices in the healthcare field include nursing, healthcare administration, pharmacy, and physical therapy. You can take some courses in these and other healthcare fields and decide what type of career you would prefer. Some degrees will prepare you for a career where you interact directly with patients while others prepare you for an administrative role.

The Technical Path

Are you fascinated by technology and the latest devices? In this case, you might choose a technical field. You have many options on this path, including mathematics, computer science and engineering. If you already have a bachelorís degree, a practical option might be to pursue an online electrical engineering masterís degree. This is a degree that prepares you for many jobs in industries such as construction, aerospace, telecommunications, utilities and many others.

The Criminal Justice Path

Another path worth considering is the field of criminal justice. A criminal justice degree prepares you for a wide range of jobs in growing sectors. You might become a police officer, corrections officer, Secret Service agent, private investigator or Homeland Security agent, to list just a few possibilities. If youíre interested in protecting the citizenry and are looking for a rewarding career, you should look into pursing a criminal justice degree.

If youíre trying to find the best path for your future, you should consider your own aptitudes and interests as well as the job picture. Thereís a good chance that you can find a meeting ground between the two. Take some courses that interest you and then identify a practical career path that matches your abilities.
