Incoming! How To Get Set For Your Leap Into College Life (99 hits)

Leaving home for college is a fun time in your life, and it's also a time when you might be afraid of heading off for a new adventure. You need to keep in mind that going to college means that you can start the career of your dreams. It also means that you will learn about life and how to survive on your own. Your freshman year won't be a fear to overcome if you follow a few tips on setting off from home.

Study Before Studying

Over the summer, you want to read as much as you can. Try to find out what books will be required for your classes so that you can get ahead. It will make things easier when it comes to doing projects and understanding what is being taught in class.

Packing

Get everything packed and ready to go in the weeks before you leave. This is a time when your parents can go shopping with you to find the storage compartments and other items that are needed for your dorm room or your apartment if you live off campus. Packing early will help to prevent the hustle and bustle of getting everything together in the final few days you're at home.

Getting Healthy

Before you leave, visit your doctor to see if there is any kind of medication you might need or any vaccinations that are required for the school. Another idea is to see if you need glasses, getting them at a place like All About Eyes that can check your eyes and fit you for glasses well before you begin classes so that you are adjusted to them. New glasses can help you see notes on the board, especially if you have large classes where you can't sit near the front of the class.

People Skills

When you're at college, you'll meet many new people. Use the weeks before leaving home to brush up on your people skills to make it easier to talk to other students in your classes. It will also help when you want to talk about joining any clubs or getting involved in extracurricular activities. Communication skills can also be a benefit for when you have to get in front of your class to give a presentation.

Going to college doesn't have to be frightening if you plan ahead. From packing the essentials to getting the body healthy, use your summer break to prepare. When you get to college, stay in contact with friends and family so that you have a pleasant experience.
