Study Tips: 3 Keys to Passing an Entrance Exam (37 hits)

Entrance exams are one of the most stressful parts of gaining admission to school. A great deal of weight is placed on your score, yet it often feels like no one really tells you how to prepare. If you want to do well, you should consider these three keys to passing an entrance exam.

Try it First

If you're going to take an entrance exam, don't go in blind. Instead, take a practice version of the test beforehand. There are free practice questions for virtually every admissions exam out there, so it shouldn't be too hard to find the questions you need.

Taking some time to go through a practice test doesn't just help you to understand more about the format but it also helps to build your confidence. Keep taking practice tests to keep your test-taking skills sharp. Knowing how the test works is nearly as important as knowing the content.

Get Professional Help

Test prep companies such as Altius MCAT Prep exist for a reason. These companies have not only hired tutors that have aced the tests you want to take, but they've spent time breaking entrance exams down to their component parts in order to see how they work.

That means that these services can not only help you to prepare for the material that will be on the test but also that they can give you a few tips and tricks that will make taking the test easier. While these services certainly can't take the test for you, they can help you to prepare.

Stay Calm

Entrance exams are just one part of the admissions process. If you couldn't pass the exam, there's a very good chance that you wouldn't be taking it. There shouldn't be anything new on the test - you will have to study to recall old information, but you are going down roads that are already well tread.

Take some time to remember that you really do know this information that you have the tools necessary to pass. Don't be fooled - this is just another test, and your best efforts will get you the score you deserve.

Don't panic before your exam. Stay calm, get help when you need it, and practice as much as possible. If you don't do well, rest easy knowing that you can take the exam again. While there is certainly a great deal riding on your performance, the only way to really succeed is to diligently prepare for this test as if it was just another grade.
