5 Doctor Exams You Want to Have Before Moving Away to College (262 hits)

Going back to school is a very busy time of the year for any college student. While you can be very busy, it is important to make sure that your health is in good condition before heading back. To ensure that you are healthy, there are five health professionals in particular that you need to visit before heading back to school each year.

Full Physical

Prior to the start of any year, you should make sure that you see your primary care physician for a full physical. This should include receiving a battery of blood tests to ensure that you are healthy. It can also help you to identify health concerns when they are in their infant stages.

Dental Exam

Before going away to college, you also want to make sure that you go to see your local dentist for dental exams. All people should make sure that they see their dentist and have their teeth cleaned at least twice per year. When you are away at college, it can be very hard to get back to your dental office. Because of this, you should try to go every summer before you go back for the fall semester. You can then go again when you are on winter break.

When you are in class at college, you will want to make sure that you are able to see the blackboard or anything else that the professor is displaying. If you have not had your eyes checked in a while, you could find that you suddenly need a new vision prescription you are able to see clearly. By going to the eye doctor, you can be assured that you are able to have the corrected vision you need to be successful.

Spending all day walking around campus can be very hard on your back, especially when you are lugging books. To ensure that your back is strong and ready to handle the load, you will want to see a local chiropractor. If your back is not strong or needs work, the doctor will be able to help you strengthen it and give you tips to cope.

Mental Health

Due to the amount of stress that comes with college, you should also consider seeing your psychiatrist. The psychiatrist will help you to mentally prepare for the school year and can also give you stress coping strategies to help you be successful.

Overall, you want to make sure that you are healthy. If there is anything else that is bothering you, you should make sure that you meet with your physician or specialist to have it identified and taken care of.
