Award Winning Gumbo for the Soul Anthology Publisher Acquires Land for Philanthropy Use
February 4, 2019 was more than a phenomenal day of rain, sunshine and even an end-to-end rainbow in the California skies for Beverly Black Johnson, creator of Gumbo for the Soul-known for its rich artful, book covers by world renown artist Synthia SAINT JAMES, and hundreds of generous contributors that comprise each series.
Earlier that day she was in a bidding war for a .24 acre of land that resulted in a little confusion. “Someone out-right purchased it,” Beverly reflects, “and my all night vigilant watch thinking I was the highest bidder was in vain.” In vain or not, within that same time-frame, Beverly would do exactly that on a .54 acre of property with the power, sewage and electricity already connected-something the first piece of land lacked.
At the time of this release, Beverly only had this to say. “All I could do was praise God! I am so glad I didn’t see the purchase button on the first bid, resulting in saving thousands to bring in the services that the beautiful land I now own already has. It’s ready to build and that’s a blessing!”
As a publisher, philanthropy is at the center of Gumbo for the Soul, whose books focus on literacy, adoption/foster care, breast cancer and prostate cancer-with more under development. Beverly has been publishing and giving away these books since 2005 as part of a literacy initiative.
The land will be developed to accommodate no fewer than five homes and a community garden of which many will benefit as the occupants -with a focus on holistic health and wellness.
Located near Mt. Shasta, California with the snow-capped beauty in clear view, there is also a nearby recreational lake, 18-hole golf course, a community center and trails for horse-back riding and hiking. “The Well” will be a refuge from the world-if but for a brief period.
Many from at-risk youth, disabled veterans, and chronically ill children and their parents will benefit from this soon-to-be oasis. “The Well” aims to raise the funds with your support and presence in this amazing endeavor. There will be enough room for many to take comfort here in knowing people cared enough to think of them in this way, so they can regroup and keep a grip on life.
Our donors will be honored with placards in the community garden and will also be invited to each ribbon cutting, and ground-breaking milestone attributed to bringing this selfless endeavor to fruition.
“We are looking to raise at least $1M but whatever people are willing to give, big or small, will be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to start applying for building permits and signing with contractors immediately. The foundation for “The Well” all depends on your support.
Please visit our GoFundMe page and pledge your support today. Let’s make this dream a reality!
Our new Facebook page will keep you abreast of our progress with updates and pictures.
With gladness and thanksgiving, Beverly.
