Key Tips for Earning a College Degree During Active Military Duty (111 hits)

Being on active duty may be a dream come true for you. However, other parts of your life donít have to stop just because youíve been placed in an active status. Rather, here are some helpful tips that will allow you to earn a college degree while remaining active in the military.

Plan Out Your Days

If youíve never set a schedule for yourself before, this can be a bit of a challenge. However, itís one that youíll be thankful that you learned. By tracking how youíre going to be spending each hour in the day, you can better manage your time. It will also allow you to see the things in your schedule that waste the most time so that you can alter them.

Choose a Flexible Degree Program

Various colleges have different requirements when it comes to how they offer all their courses. Some schools only have courses that are offered on campus. Others may have some online courses and some on campus only courses. And, some other colleges may only offer online programs. Itís best to assess the types of programs that a school offers so you know if youíll have to spend any time in the future on their campus to graduate. This may mean not officially graduating until youíre released from active duty.

Pick a School Thatís Active Military Friendly

You should be choosing an online university for military that is familiar with active military students. These schools know what your daily commitments are and can formulate your education around that. Schools that donít currently work with many active military students may lack the experience to properly tailor degrees and courses around your different schedules and needs.

Write Down Your Goals and Your Whys

Being on active duty and going to school can be an overwhelming experience, to say the least. Keeping yourself in the mindset of why youíre doing it all is important for those days where you just want to throw in the towel. Take some time now to write down your goals for your college education and why you want to get your degree. This will be very helpful later on.

Deciding to undergo additional education to earn a college degree is a big step for anybody. This holds especially true for those who are on active duty. To help balance your time and commitment to both the military and your degree program you should utilize the tips suggested for you above.
