Corporate Philanthropic Director
Position Summary:

Tides Client Services (CS) Department interacts directly with Tides clients to provide strategic and management services to drive high impact, effective philanthropy and to scale promising social ventures. The Corporate Philanthropic Director will be the primary leader for Tides ongoing engagement with existing and new corporate grantmaking clients to respond to, design, and scale clients’ strategic goals. Other responsibilities include: establishing Tides as an expert and connector in key corporate philanthropic ecosystems and issue areas; building on our ongoing relationship with Pledge 1%; contributing to Tides’ communications, voice and influence activities; and coordinating a cross-departmental corporate conference engagement strategy. This position will be located in San Francisco.

Essential Functions:

FUELING GROWTH:

•Deepen Tides expertise and knowledge management in specific corporate philanthropic ecosystems, issue areas, and industry areas

•Establish and roll out a standardized engagement model for all Client Services Staff and staff in additional Tides departments to:

•Market and deliver additional and expanded philanthropic and strategic investment opportunities for existing corporate clients

•Expand CS and Tides’ ability to deepening our understanding and expertise around new issue areas, geographies and approaches that are aligned with corporate clients’ interests and impact strategies

•Personally model and practice the curation and delivery of expertise to a set of corporate clients around a relevant social change issue area and/or innovative philanthropic approach

•Manage and expand our relationship with Pledge 1%, including establishing a tailored offering and outreach strategy to Pledge 1% companies

•Work closely with the Vice President, Strategic Partnerships & Communications on new and existing corporate client engagement models to ensure consistent and compelling service offerings and delivery

•Develop matrix staffing approaches with all Tides departments, including Grants, and Finance teams, that accelerate success, growth and impact of corporate grantmaking clients

•Train and mentor CS staff working with corporate philanthropic clients on new models for client engagement and track successes and lessons learned

•Develop a pipeline of specific new corporate business opportunities and close those clients to achieve annual enhanced service goal for CS Department:

1.Coordinate client requirements

2.Develop and negotiate contracts

3.Integrate contract requirements with Tides Strategic Partnerships

•Develop and maintain broad external relations with desired clients in specific corporate philanthropic ecosystems, issue areas and industry areas; ensure strategies and capabilities of new clients are aligned with Tides’ objectives

•Establish and execute tactical plans in support of Tides’ strategic growth and expansion in new corporate client sectors

•Enhance Tides ability to work with corporate philanthropic clients to measure and evaluate impact of grantees.

•Align with COO and other CS Directors to mine the Tides Client Network for prospective new corporate clients, deeper engagement with current clients and enhanced services opportunities

SERVICE INNOVATIONS:

•Assist with roll out of Tides’ differentiated service models, pricing, and aligned marketing materials to corporate grantmaking clients

•Partner with other Tides departments on marketing to existing corporate clients evolving impact investment opportunities, including investments into diversified impact funds and individual equity and/or loan investments into for-profit social ventures

•Initiate and work collaboratively to develop corporate client proposals and presentation materials including direct content contribution to Tides branding, marketing and website efforts

VOICE & INFLUENCE:

•Lead and coordinate Client Services engagement with the Communications team in advancing Tides’ corporate grantmaking and impact investing expertise in Tides’ strategic voice and influence activities in written publications and events

•Manage Client Services’ attendance and presence at key industry events and conferences in specific corporate philanthropic ecosystems, issue areas, and industry areas. Personally model best practices for high value engagement and business development at industry events, including those sponsored or hosted by Tides.

•Demonstrate commitment to cross boundaries inside and outside the organization as needed to drive acceleration and improve relationships between people and groups

GENERAL:

•Drive the Tides Vision, Mission and Approach into action

•Serve as a Primary Liaison for Client Services corporate grantmaking services with Strategic Partnerships department

•Manage a small and strategic portfolio of high-touch Tides corporate clients

•Work interactively with the COO to align work and goals in Client Services for mutual benefit and enhancement

•Serve as a member of the Tides Business Development Team
Qualifications & Requirements


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:




•B.S. or higher degree MBA preferred, or equivalent experience

•15+ years of relevant and applicable work experience in:

•Field of corporate philanthropy or corporate social responsibility

•Demonstrated experience in new business generation with corporate clients

•Business and client development, the structuring of complex offers, and negotiating terms

•A strong understanding of the corporate philanthropic advisory service and intermediary sector and Tides Vision, Mission and Approach

•Deep knowledge in fields of social innovation and social justice, including grantmaking, multi-stakeholder collaborative partnerships, and impact and evaluation

•Demonstrated understanding of specific issue and/or industry areas in the global corporate philanthropic and market

•Experience in training and mentoring a consultative selling team

•Ability to build long term relationships with good networking track record

•Demonstrated ability to prioritize amongst multiple commitments, and to drive multiple high profile and complex projects simultaneously in a challenging and fluid environment

•Ability to identify key influencers and market drivers that impact Tides’ introduction and expansion

•Ability to impact the sustainability of the organization by differentiating core and enhanced services

•Demonstrated ability to read and interpret contracts, analyze market trends, model potential solutions, interpret market research, and review technical data

•Demonstrated success with establishing or expanding business in new markets

•Ability to manage relationship and excellent communication and listening skills with senior levels of management and all levels of staff and clients

•Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
