Biological Sciences Lecturer/Advisor Position
The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position on an 8-month basis with an anticipated start date of 27 August 2018. This position is outside of the tenure stream and subject to annual review. Applicants must have an MS or PhD in biology. The position entails teaching one course per term (1/3 total effort) and advising undergraduate students (2/3 total effort; approximately 1000 students shared with a team of five advisors). Advising duties include meeting one-on-one with students to discuss course selections, progress in their chosen major, resources and opportunities at the university, and career planning. The advising team develops programming such as CV workshops, career info sessions, and the Departmental Senior Recognition Ceremony. Formal undergraduate advising experience is not required, but we seek an individual who can apply relevant academic or non-academic experiences to the guidance of students with diverse scientific interests and career aspirations.
Qualifications & Requirements Candidates should submit (a) a letter of application, (b) a CV, (c) a teaching portfolio (teaching statement, teaching materials, teaching evaluations), (d) a summary of other relevant experience, if applicable, (e) a brief description of how your teaching or service demonstrates a commitment to diversity and inclusion, and (f) at least three letters of reference.
