The Center for Diversity and Inclusion at Xavier University seeks a student-centered, highly motivated and equity-minded professional to develop, deliver and assess programming that focuses on the personal and social identity development and academic success of students interested in exploring and affirming their racial and ethnic identities on campus. The Associate Director will provide developmental and programmatic support to student organizations focused on race and ethnicity. This person will also be responsible for facilitating intercultural skill building programming that challenges all students to engage with issues of race, ethnicity and racism. This person will also lead efforts to offer culturally-responsive leadership development to students and faculty concerning best practices.

This position requires energy and strong organizational and leadership skills. The position also requires effective communication skills to form critical collaborations across divisions and with faculty, staff and community partners to manage and advocate for students' needs and concerns. The successful candidate will have experience creating and implementing culturally-affirming programming, training, and leadership development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following list of duties is meant to be representative of the work performed in this position. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility here will not preclude it from the position.

Assist the Director with planning and facilitating campus-wide programming, education, and advocacy related to diversity and inclusion and the celebration/recognition of various heritage months and awareness campaigns
Advise, train, and assist student organizations associated with the CDI including: Black Student Association (BSA), African Student Association (ASA), Hispanic Organization for Latinx Awareness (HOLA) and Gentlemen of Achievement and Leadership (G.O.A.L), a men of color club.
Organize student-focused racial and ethnic intercultural workshops and programming throughout campus, especially in residential halls
Lead intercultural proficiency trainings that increase the awareness of staff, faculty and student leaders or student employees as it relates to race and ethnic identity development and barriers of academic success and belonging
Identify best practices and support the university strategic plan and goals in developing racially and ethnically inclusive leadership training, policies and practices
Design and implement culturally responsive leadership development modules for CDI affiliated student organizations
Coach students in their social, leadership, academic, and identity development and advocate for their holistic well-being
Attend and assist in the implementation of programming for students, including some evenings and weekends
Work directly and in partnership with other campus offices to provide support to underrepresented students and promote a diverse and inclusive campus


Master's degree required.
Experience working with diverse student populations required; relevant experience in higher education strongly preferred.
Demonstrated success in developing programs and services that promote success and support for students of color and other underrepresented groups.
Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use said knowledge in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations.
Ability to work flexible hours required to supervise and facilitate evening and weekend programs and events.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and intercultural communication skills.
Fluency in Spanish is desired.
An understanding of issues facing contemporary higher education and capacity to engage the culture of a Jesuit Catholic university.
