Director of Risk Management
The Director of Risk Management has the primary responsibility for providing consultative leadership and management to accomplish and maintain an effective and strategic university-wide risk management program for the campuses and programs of Azusa Pacific University. The Director of Risk Management reports to the General Counsel and has responsibility of engagement with university executives and trustees.

Required Education
* A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in emergency management or a related field preferred.
* Preferred education includes a Master’s degree, a Juris Doctorate, or a risk management-related professional designation such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM) or ARM-ERM.

Required Experience
* Minimum of 7-10 years in risk management, insurance, project management, or a closely related field.
* Experience implementing or overseeing Enterprise Risk Management is highly preferred.
* Experience working collaboratively to translate complex institutional risk problems into practical solutions.
* Experience interacting with representatives of government, volunteer organizations, public officials and business and community organizations preferred.
* Supervisory experience is preferred.
* Experience in emergency planning and response is preferred.
* Risk management experience in a university setting is preferred.

Primary Duties/Essential Functions
* Risk Management, Safety and Loss Prevention
- Implementing or overseeing a data-driven, strategic and effective Enterprise Risk Management program.
- Development of risk management policies and procedures on a campus wide basis.
- Coordinate the performance of risk assessments with the various ‘”risk owners” and recommend methods to conserve human, financial and physical assets, and assist “risk owners” with development and implementation of loss prevention programs and practices.
- Maintain current knowledge of risk management issues and practical techniques to mitigate exposures.
- Facilitate the utilization of insurance carrier and insurance broker provided services to conduct regular safety inspections on university campuses to identify risks and opportunities for loss prevention programs.
- Facilitate the utilization of insurance carrier provided resources to conduct ergonomic assessments and provide train-the-trainer training for managers of operations that would most benefit from this knowledge.
- Work with the various campus risk owners to assist in the development of policies and practices to address environmental and environmental health & safety issues
- Serve on the University Critical Incident Response Team, University Safety Committee and other relevant committees.
* Insurance Management
- Evaluate university operations and identify exposures, recommend appropriate types and levels of insurance.
- Negotiate and administer the insurance contracts with the university’s insurance broker(s).
- Participate in underwriting negotiations with insurers.
- Oversee the documentation and negotiation of non-litigated claims under the university insurance policies.
- Interpret day-to-day University related risk and insurance issues, answering risk related questions from the campuses and business unites, and offer recommendations for appropriate actions consistent with the University’s mission.
- Facilitate generation of outgoing insurance certificates and provide recommended direction on incoming Certificates of Insurance.
* Direct oversight of the Emergency Planning and Response Manager, if hired.

* Knowledge of insurance coverage in the areas of property, liability, fiduciary and workers’ compensation
* Strong working knowledge of risk management techniques and strategies including those involved with risk mitigation, management, loss prevention, and claims management.

Physical Demands
* Continuous sitting four-six hours daily.
* Requires repetitive motion, computer monitor reading, and sitting at computer keyboard.
* Hearing and speaking on the telephone.
* Meetings will require walking and/or driving to various University locations.
* Ability to pull, push, bend, grasp, reach and lift up to 20 lbs.
* Must be able to climb stairs multiple times in a work day.

Technologies
* Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.
