Tri-City Marching Band
For all of us that have been blessed to attend a Historically Black College or University, we all know where the heart of the school laid. It was in the marching band. As a former student of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Ga, I know the love that we all share regardless of what school you may have attended. If someone has not attended an HBCU then they would probably never understand how much we love them, and how they will always be apart of us. Nonetheless, I believe it is time to branch out and take the rich history out beyond the south. Right now I am in the process of starting the first branch off of a black college marching band in the north; Indiana. Tri-City Marching Band is a dream that I have had since I was in high school, and now with my experience and the support of students from numerous HBCU and non-HBCU schools, it is starting to form. I would like to invite any and everyone to join this group in support of this vision. I have a LONG way to go, but everyday brings me closer. I enjoy explaining my vision and even if you do not agree with it, I am open to discussing different viewpoints. Currently, my project will be starting in the state of Indiana within the cities of Indianapolis, Muncie, Anderson, and Richmond. It will be for COLLEGE STUDENTS ONLY. My mission is Diversifying Cultures with Existing History and the motto is High Stepping over Boundaries. As of right now, I have had an enormous response from college students in support of this project. With tons of emails, phone calls, and just random people stopping me while on my way to class, it has become clear to me that these students are excited and are looking forward to launching this development. Unfortunately, though I have plenty of ready, able and willing participates I lack the proper management. I, along with another fellow member from Morris Brown are the only two experienced marchers that we know of. In order to make this dream a reality I need more people with skill, experience and a love for marching band to help lead, guide, train and teach the students that we have now. In this, I am extending an open invitation to you. If you are or know someone that still has that love and passion for band as I do and would like to continue to use your knowledge and skill please contact me. Even if you are not in the Midwest area, please still get in touch with me. Currently I have one drill designer, two people who have volunteered to write drum cadences, and one person to write music, and as we all know, it takes more than that to run a successful band. I have four HBCU school marching band directors who have agreed to help me in any way, especially in sending me music to help with the beginning stages. Thank you for joining the Tri-City Marching Band group, supporting, contacting, or even just spreading the word. Every little bit helps. I would also like to add again, if you have concerns or comments please let voice them to me. I appreciate all different viewpoints because I am aware that some may not be in support. Talk to me and let me know why. If you would like to contact me personally, please feel free to email me on here or at tricitymarchingband@yahoo.com. If you would like to call me please respond and with that request and I will give provide a number where I may be reached. Once again, thank you. Jessica M. Harris Tri-City Marching Band Founder
